El Gaucho — Restaurant in Playa del Carmen

Oct. 26, 2021 - One of several restaurants located within the Sandos Resort at Playa del Carmen (Mexico). At 6 pm the doors opened, and our party of 5 were promptly seated in a large dining area. Impressed with the Covid safety measures. . . . the customer groups were spaced apart every-other table , employees masked up! The menu is on line!

Very attentive and helpful with our 1 year old, our server was excellent! (I apologize for not remembering his name.) He recalled each drink ordered, delivered each drink to the respective customer without a mistake! Very impressive! Seems this El Gaucho restaurant offers a streamlined menu with a stacked Salad & Dessert bar included in dinner. This menu offers 4 appetizers choices, ( Sausage was good) , 2 choices of soup ( Beef & veggie soup was good), several selections of steak, ( Ribeye was also good) !

As to the experience & quality . . . Depends on the customer ! I would offer that the owners wish to please as many folks as is possible, which is a difficult task:

We enjoyed our dinner, until our little guy of 1.5 years melted down at the end . But our steak was good! Raising a family is rewarding, with a few bumps in the road. . . You apologize , and tip for the mess around...

We have been coming to Sandos Playacar for a number of years and have found El Gaucho to be a consistent place for breakfast and dinner. The dinner menu was reduced a bit this year but still very good. One of the things that has made El Gaucho so good over the years is the Manager of the Dining Room (breakfast), Mirna. She is very friendly and hard working and dives right in to do whatever is needed to help. Mirna always goes out of her way to make us feel welcome. She also manages the dining area for the pool buffet close to the beach and is equally as hard working and charismatic. People like Mirna are why we return to Sandos. We hope that Sandos recognizes how valuable Mirna is to this resort. Haring family,...

The service and food was good at this restaurant. My boyfriend and I were in Mexico at the TRS Yucatan Hotel for a vacation and decided to give this steakhouse a try. I ordered the Chef Special soup of the day and chicken turnovers for an appetizer. Followed by flank steak, creamed spinach, mixed veggies and fried sweet potatoes.
