El Gran Taco — Restaurant in Playa del Carmen

April 2021: popular place locally. Super with a couple of caveats i will mention are end. More variety of home cooking style tacos. I had green mole quesadilla, and green sauce enchiladas. They were great and tasty especially the green mole. My friend had flautas and Chile relleno 🌮. They were also great. They serve carnitas here. That's their flagship meat. You should try it. The service is super. They are always at your table picking up dirty plates and bottles. But also you feel that they w rushing you finish eating and get the hell out. because of the low capacity with covid-19,The line starts forming outside quickly. I can't blame them but it's not a nice feeling as a consumer. It reached a level that when you finish eating, they remove the napkin dispenser off the table. I consider that to be odd behavior by a restaurant. Second thing, taco's price is equal to touristic area. Does not make sense and is not appreciated. The food here is so good. Vibe is like a cafeteria you order and pay at the front.

You must try the Flautas con Queso and at least 1 Taco Guisado. I like the cerdo taco.

Normally I am not happy at a place with high prices, but the flavor here is so good that I eat here a treat. Everything they make is Mexican abuela approved.

If you are really hungry and you want to have a big meal you can order 250 grams of carnitas and eat it there. If I need a takeaway meal I order 500 grams of carnitas and I eat half of it at the table first then take the rest home.

Make sure to tip at least 10-20 pesos per person it's hard to remember because this isn't a formal dining experience but you can leave it on the table or hand it to the person who brings...

The Food and staff are wonderful . I have gone about once a week but will not go back. I always go when it's not crowded and have no idea why this creepy man who always greets me has some weird obsession with which portal I pass to approach the cashier when there are two customers in the entire place.
