Yum Ixpu — Restaurant in Progreso

This was my second time here. It's a few blocks from Progreso Beach/Puerto Progreso. We were told it's one of the best testing restaurants around Progreso, and we agree. The prices are fair, almost on the cheaper side for seafood. I'm not a person who really likes seafood, but being on this side of México, the seafood is a must because it's so fresh. I actually ended up liking their fried fish and ceviche de pulpo y camarón (shrimp and octopus ceviche), which I had my first time there. Great local find in a non-touristy neighborhood. We went on a Sunday about 1 PM and waited in line for a table about 20 minutes, this place is extremely popular, about 45 minutes later the line was out the door and down the street. All seafood menu including ceviches and pescado fritos. The servings are huge way too much for one person, I shared my 1/2 kilo of pescado empanizado with 3 others. Super fresh seafood and perfectly cooked, they also have a bar and takeout service. Dining is upstairs, well ventilated but no AC. Prices are among the lowest I've seen. We got takeout food, the breaded fish and chicken nachos this was our first meal in Mexico. My son and I had to spit our food out it was so bad. The fish smelled old and tasted worse.
