We had no idea when we chose this place on Google that it was connected to La Casa del Mendrugo (see my review there).
The atmosphere was nice, and only two tables were seated when we arrived. We ordered a hot chocolate and a coffee from the waitress. Then, to our surprise, the same waiter from the night before (other restaurant) showed up. We were shocked. Once again, he tried to upsell us, and unfortunately, I fell for it.
It wasn’t a huge amount of money, but it was the principle. He came over and said they had a “special” coffee and fruit for just 75 pesos more. I figured the coffee I already ordered would be included, so I agreed. I was given a tiny plate with nine small slices of fruit and no additional coffee. When the bill came, there was a 75 peso charge for the “coffee and fruit” and another 75 peso charge for the bad coffee I had already ordered. When I questioned it, he blamed us and claimed my latte wasn’t the coffee that came with the special. This was at the time of paying — and he even said, “we can bring you some coffee now.” I had already finished eating. I ended up paying for coffee I never received.
It was another frustrating experience on top of the previous night.
The food wasn’t what I expected from a supposedly nice restaurant. It wasn’t awful, but it was probably the worst meal we had in Puebla and one of the weakest of our whole trip in Mexico.
My latte was poorly made and had one of the worst presentations I’ve ever seen. It was a small 220cc cup for 75 pesos — one of the most expensive coffees I’ve had in Mexico and efinitely the worst.
The hot chocolate was also a disappointment. Honestly, you’d have a better cup of coffee or hot chocolate at Starbucks, and I don’t even like Starbucks. I’m not saying this to be mean, but the drinks were embarrassingly bad.
As for breakfast, the presentation was beautiful. I’m not an expert in these particular dishes, but I’ve worked in restaurants and traveled extensively. The food didn’t measure up. We didn't eat all of our meals, which is very unusual for us. The potatoes on my plate were undercooked, some of them raw. The meat wasn’t very fresh. The poached eggs, however, were perfectly cooked.
The other dish was chicken enchiladas with cashew sauce. It was just okay. The tortillas were gummy and the chicken was bland white meat. It wasn’t really enjoyable.
The bread, yeast rolls, were not fresh. We had the same bread elsewhere and it tasted like it had just come out of the oven. Not here.
Of all the breakfasts we’ve had in Mexico during our trip, this was the worst and probably the most expensive. Check out my other reviews if you want better breakfast recommendations.
It’s tough to write a negative review when most others are positive, but this was our honest experience. Maybe you’ll have better luck.
My one-star rating is mostly because of how the restaurant handles complaints. Reviews are not for the restaurant to argue with, they’re for other diners. No one cares about excuses after the fact or calling a phone number after the fact. Issues should be resolved at the table. I told the waiter about my experience, and he just looked into the sky pretending not to understand. He did nothing to make things right and acted like it was my fault for misunderstanding the “promotion.”
Restaurants should make sure no one leaves their restaurant feeling like this. Many of this restaurant's competitors are doing a much better job than this one and are much better ambassadors for Puebla and treat visitors...
Read moreUnfortunately the breakfast ordered didn’t match the description on menu. As such it was overpriced. It was supposed to be a fried potato, onion, Serrano ham, with fried eggs in a clay pot, and what I received were French fries topped with sunny side up eggs and some Serrano shavings served in a metal dish. I brought this to attention but no efforts to correct things were made. My wife’s meal was good. Service staff was very kind and...
