Worse stay we ever had! We read previous reviews and thought this was a great option for an experience in a Historic Colonial Building. Such a disappointment! We booked 4 nights and after arriving we were given room 201 facing the street which was lively. Never thought it could be an issue. Room was hot so we requested a fan and the receptionist brought a very old standing one. After getting back from dinner we got to our laptop realized that the Wi-Fi codes they provide never worked. I called reception a couple of times and they told me they will provide a new code but never called back. Only outlets to charge phones were in the bathroom. The room was hot so we plugged the fan and it was extremely loud so we opted to open the window of our balcony. The rest of the night was miserable! A man digging on the trash and throwing cans kept us up, fallowing by the trash truck at 1am. Then loud group of people parting outside until 3am. Finally decided to close the window after we got bitten by mosquitos. And then the loud fan again which was just blowing hot air. And all this didn’t even happen during the heat wave. After first night we just wanted to get out of there!! Came down to see receptionist just to find out that reception was closed. The only person I was able to find was the housekeeper which informed me that the receptionist had the day off, really? No 24 hour front desk as advertised! I called earlier and I got an answer on front desk but when I went downstairs it was closed. Calls get sent somewhere else but no one is on site. That’s why they can’t call you back! This is a Scam!! What happens if there is a serious emergency? Asked housekeeper that I needed to talk to the manager and that it was an emergency since there was no way we could spend another night like the one we had. She refused to call her boss because it was too early. 8:30am!? She said she will call our room after speaking with him. We keep waiting but never received a call so we packed our bags and came down after 10am. Reception was still closed. We requested to talk to the manager and she said he will not come until possibly 1pm. But she said she had a response from her boss and that there was No refunds period! Housekeeper handed us a business card of the hotel and asked us to communicate via email only! Absolutely the worst customer service we have ever experienced! We were expecting management to work with us, and trying to provide options like moving us to a different room in order to enjoy the rest of our stay. But haven’t received a call from anyone since we left yesterday. Very poorly handled! They are many other options out there to...
Read moreOne of the ongoing problems with hotels in Mexico is the cama hotelera, the “hotel” bed. A lot of hotels buy harder, firmer mattresses because they last longer, and it is like sleeping on a concrete slab. So you can imagine how thrilled we were to discover this lovely hotel where management had invested in providing a comfortable thermapedic type mattress layer to make the beds super comfortable. And the hot water was great in the showers. The location was great. The rooms were lovely. And wacky in a good way. Lots of antique furniture and the Moroccan Room is one well worth asking for, with its Morocco themed walls and furniture. We would stay here again. The reception staff, truly wonderful. They let us leave our big luggage with them while we road tripped to Cuetzalan for a few days. For more on our trip, and Puebla check out my photos on Jay Francis Día de Muertos 2023 on fb.
Update January 2024. I returned to the hotel in January for two nights. January is probably one of the colder months in Puebla. I stayed in room 101 and the king size bed was super comfortable and I slept very well. Being an older hotel, there is no heating in the room so I asked for an extra blanket, and when it was bedtime, I just made quick moves between the bathroom, room area, and bed. What’s in bed, I was perfectly warm and actually slept late. Now, an older hotel running the hot water in January. I noted that it took about five minutes for the hot water to be delivered to the shower, which makes sense because that water has to pass the meters and meters of hotel piping that is probably cold because of the time of year. also being an older hotel, they wouldn’t have their own pressurization system so the water is coming out at fairly low pressure based on whatever the city can deliver. But it wasn’t a major problem for me and the comfortable bed and the location still make me give this hotel a thumbs up. Also, in room 101, lots of closet and drawer space because it is a...
Read morePerfect location one long block from the Cathedral. Rooms are tastefully furnished in tile and wood with a colonial feel befitting this beautiful city. Room size was ample and there was much more storage space than most similar hotels. Bathroom was huge. Staff was excellent. Graciela, who was at the desk during the day, was extremely cordial and helpful with information and travel plans. I had a king room with a balcony, as I like a view of the street, and many Mexican hotels only have interior rooms. The street, considering how central, was surprisingly quiet, but there are also good noise isolating windows. Shower had ample hot water at all times. There's a coffeemaker in the room, with coffee supplied, as well as bottled water every day. It's great value for the money considering quality of room, service and location. The photos of the rooms are accurate.||||Cons: Hot water in sink was very slow to heat up. ||There were no accessible power outlets near the bed as they were all behind the bed. This could be remedied by extension cords or lamps with power outlets.||There was insufficient bathroom lighting in my room, e.g. no lights over the mirror, so a bit of a challenge to shave.||It was difficult to get the key in the room lock as the lock was somewhat stripped, so I had to jiggle the key. Management should be more attentive to lock maintenance.||Breakfast was OK but nothing special. Good fresh OJ, coffee or tea (but no herbal tea choices), a small serving of fruit, bread, and eggs of your choice. The huevos rancheros were pretty good. Every morning they'd also have a different sweet bread. The conchas were excellent, but the cookies on other days didn't seem as appropriate a breakfast choice. They should just stick with daily conchas.||Still, for me these are minor issues compared to the pluses...
