This is a little gem hidden in downtown Querétaro. Great service, but most importantly amazing dishes, and food was delicious. They have a lot of traditional food from Yucatan and also local. They have Mexican caviar (escamoles) very fresh and nicely prepared - my wife and my mother, they both have them even though they're not into this type of (insect) food. They both liked it (it's not the first time I have had them eat escamoles). I also adventured into trying their "botanas del futuro" (snacks from the future), which contains 3 or 4 different types of warms and insects (including a local insect that looks like a dried blueberry when fried). The dish was very good, well-served and presented. The dish for a starter is a lot bigger than what I was expecting, it will feed 6-8 adults. It certainly justifies the price. You also need to try their Aguas frescas (fresh water), made out from fresh fruits (cold-pressed). Overall, if you're in Downtown Querétaro, and you want to try a very nice Mexican cuisine from the south with a local accent. Then this is a...
Read moreThe Tikua Sur-Este is a great place to be, to drink and to eat. It is located in an old colonial style house, nicely painted and decorated. The washrooms are also nice and clean.
The personnel is highly trained and very polite and friendly.
My food (Chile poblano relleno de escamoles caramelizado con piloncillo) was fresh, of very good quality and it was very nicely presented. Nonetheless, it was - in my very personal opinion - too sweet for a main dish. The idea of "caramelizado con piloncillo" was to tempting not to try, but the sugar killed almost all other possible flavours. I was disappointed. My fiancé had "Tres moles con pollo", which was of very good quality but had a disappointing taste. Only the darkest mole was o.k. We missed any kind of interesting taste we had experienced even in very economic places before. The middle coloured and light coloured moles of the three do not deserve to be mentioned, unfortunately.
A personal recommendation is a Taco de Chapulines bebés along with a sip of a light tasting Mezcal at every bite of the...
Read moreWe arrived on a Sunday 11:45 after passing all the packed brunch places on the plaza. We had an incredible breakfast that was unique in every way. From service to menu to presentation it was beyond five stars. We started with a house made iced coffee which I would come here just to enjoy that! It’s more like a whipped shake made with coffee, avocado and chia seeds. It may sound odd but it’s absolutely delicious! I made myself stop drinking it to save room for the corn bread which was the best I’ve ever had. It’s like fluffy clouds of whipped corn. My husband and I shared the Huevos Vallisoletanos which is scrambled eggs and sausage in a mellow pumpkin seed sauce served with corn tortillas and Tamal Vaporito which is a chicken tamale perfectly steamed in a plantain leaf served with a sauce. We enjoyed our breakfast so much that we made a reservation for dinner tomorrow night. I can’t wait to try their inventive cocktails and...
