This is a nice little cafe that I have visited now for the third time in three trips to Querétaro. It is located in a pleasant neighborhood in the historical center of the city.
First, the good. The atmosphere is bright, lots of sunlight, and many healthy options are offered. I had a bowl of onion soup that was outstanding, 5/5. I also ordered a greek salad with chicken breast to go, it was just okay, the chicken breast being dramatically overcooked and dry, 2/5, detracting from the overall dish. The greek salad would have been better without the inclusion of the chicken.
But the experience was marred by slow, indifferent and error-filled service. I will not name the mesera, but it took me 10 minutes after sitting down to be welcomed with water and a menu. She did so without a smile and almost treated me like I was an impediment to something else more important to do. The salad to-go was delivered first, I had to remind her that I had ordered a bowl of soup. I also noted that the salad arrived without the chicken breast I had ordered, she had to take it back to correct the problem (I wish I had left it alone). When the soup arrived it was fantastic, the highlight of the visit.
But then after finishing it, I had to wait far too long to get the check, and when it arrived, it was someone else's bill, not mine.
There seemed to be plenty of meseras there and not a large crowd, so there was no apparent justification for the...
Read moreWe used to love this place with its beautiful fig tree and friendly service. But things are not what they used to be. They still have the COVID dividers up between tables which completely ruins the ambience. I am pretty sure that they can be removed now. We stood at the door for a couple of minutes waiting to be greeted, and finally were escorted to a table. The waitress did not seem terribly interested In taking care of us. We ordered a salad and some enchiladas and our friend ordered the quiche. The salad and enchiladas arrived in about 15 minutes and when we asked the waitress about the quiche she said that it was in the oven and that it takes a little bit longer. When she finally brought it out, when my husband and I were almost finished with our meals, the quiche was cold. So it appeared to us that she was not telling the truth or the cook does not know how an oven actually works. She did not offer any apology for the delay. We didn’t even mention that the quiche was cold since my friend was hungry and we had already eaten. She did say that the quiche was delicious. The salad and enchiladas also were tasty. So if you don’t mind inefficient service and eating inside a box, definitely give it a try. I do hope that they can make some...
Read moreI read a lot of reviews before deciding to go ahead and dine at Maco Cafe. I was reluctant because some of the reviews were not very flattering but some were not very recent so I thought maybe things had improved. Well, they had not. The chain is still across the entrance and staff still ignores prospective customers. When we were finally acknowledged, we were told the wait would be 20 minutes even though we could see empty tables. We decided to wait which turned out to be only about 15 minutes. Service was fairly acceptable but the food was mediocre at best. My companion ordered Bagel Ana and he said it was “pretty good”. I ordered chicken enchiladas. They were fully stuffed with shredded chicken, and only chicken, (no seasoning, cheese or sauce) which was terribly dry. They were covered with a light and tasteless green sauce that was almost room temperature. I also ordered a strawberry lemonade and was disappointed because it was nothing more than strawberry syrup in the lemonade. All in all, I’m sorry to say I’m not a fan of Maco Cafe. There is a lot of improvement needed but it does have the potential of being a nice little...
