DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!If I could give this place 0 stars I would . We bought this from one of the local excursions for 55 per person. The tour was lousy, it included driving by a couple of monuments, trip to the flea market, an off the beaten path tequila tasting with a local family that afterwards tried to sell us over priced tequila. He said he only carried it and made it but we saw it in the port store. The Chula Beach resort was horrible. When we first walked in there was a muddy mess and a run down condo. There was nasty standing water all around the property. The chairs were very close together and gave no privacy. The beach water was brown and full of seaweed. I put my feet in the water and immediately it felt like trash was wrapped around my feet. It was disgusting. The sand looked like rice or something. It looked synthetic and plastic. The food was overpriced and I believe we were told wrong prices for current exchange rates. I ordered chicken fajitas and they bought me chicken fingers instead and then got upset when I wouldn't accept it. Why would I come to Mexico and order chicken fingers. They wanted 5 bucks for a 16 oz bottled water from Sam's. The tour person later told us the best beach was Playa Palancar. She said beautiful sand and clear blue water and great food. I hope you read this to the end so you too won't spend your money and time just to be disappointed. The best thing to do is take a taxi or ferry to the beach of your choice, Do not pay for tours, they Will take you to the worst places. And you can get free tasting wherever they sell liquor. Don't do the tours and definitely don't go to Chula Beach resort. You can learn by my mistake....
Read moreWe asked for a suggestion of a more adult beach club (should have said low key adult beach club). Our taxi driver suggested a Chulas - said it was new and nice place. We should have stuck with original plan of Mr. Sanchos. We easily found chairs and umbrellas. The wood chairs were nice (not sure if it cost to get the padding for the chair - saw a few people with a cushion). There was so much seaweed on the beach and when you walked in the water (didn’t smell great either - but it’s the beach - I get it). We got the unlimited food and drink package. The unlimited food is smaller portions than are shown in their photographs. The food was okay - no better or worse than our cruise ship. We were drinking pina coladas. I was planning to tip at the end of our day but after drink number 2 we were on our own and went to the bar (couldn’t find the guy that was helping us). The massages were more expensive than I would have expected ($125 for 50 minutes). The music was so loud, graphic and filled with expletives. We did say adult so maybe that’s on us. It was better late in the day when they switched to more local music and we couldn’t understand the words. They did have snorkel equipment available but the water was not great. We went to the beach club next door and got a snorkel excursion. We paid $65 and were disappointed. Nothing was above mediocre. The free wifi kept kicking me off. Guess they didn’t want everyone to see their google rating. The restrooms were clean enough and they were working to improve the shower area. There were a few vendors that passed through but thankfully they were...
Read moreAVOID THIS PLACE! I went with my family and my brother's family. We had plans to go somewhere else but the taxi driver talked us into going here. This was a mistake. Staff were reasonably friendly but the whole place is a hustle. We paid the basic admission cost. They charged 5 USD per towel and the food/drink prices were high. After seeing the menu, I was on guard, and just not able to have a decent time.
We ordered tacos and were charged 2 separate fees for melted cheese - 1 for the cheese itself and a second fee for melting the cheese! The server asked my sister in law whether we wanted "melted cheese." There was no mention about added costs by the server or in the menu. We only found out about two additional costs when we received the check. This was a deceptive and lousy way to swindle customers out of extra cash.
Since the menu prices were so high, we ordered the cheapest things on the menu, just to hold us over. We were charged 2800 MXN for 3 beef tacos, 3 chicken tacos, 1 chicken quesadilla, 1 cheese quesadilla, chips and salsa, 1 cocktail, 3 bottles of water, and 2 towels. And the food was bad. This is excluding the entry fee and the 10% upcharge on the credit card transaction (came in thinking we had enough cash, but...) Total rip off.
The beach part was mediocre. Hard to wade in the water because of the stones, algae, and debris on the ocean floor. Water slide/play apparatuses were so-so and kayaks and snorkeling gear were in short supply. Snorkeling here was no good. This was the low point of our trip to Riviera Maya. STAY AWAY...
