Plan for a 3 hour meal Note: There are two resturants named 'Lobster House' side by side. If you are looking at them both. This review is for the one on the right. We ate at both. Both with very different serving styles and I think this is key. This one had a nice indoor/outdoor feel and is visually pleasing, but I felt ill prepared for the service style on our visit as we were not planning for a nearly 3 hour service on a 1 course meal. Expect to know your drink orders ahead of time, as no drink menus are provided. We waited for about 30-45 minutes after our drinks were served before tracking down a single menu for our table. I noticed the long wait to get your menus was apparently a common theme as multiple tables with different waite staff were going to the bar and asking how to order an appetizer or find a menu throughout our 3 hour tenure. I'm a usually a fan of slow down meals, but the 1 man live music was so loud it was hard to enjoy the company I brought for that long length of time. Thankfully, we know sign language and resorted to that while I read the lips of my family next to me. Food was acceptable, Lobster was ok but not my island favorite. This was a hard one for my kids as well. They are well versed in longer meals but usually it's for more than 1 course and they were admittedly frustrated with switching to a second language. There are no kids menus, small glasses or anything else that cater to children so Im glad I brought them coloring books, sippy cups and they were well rested Though, if i knew it was going to be a 3 hour meal, I would have packed better. Again, if you are looking for a nice environment to sit silently for a few hours or this is the place for you. It was just a too slow and too much frustrating legwork on the part of the customer for my taste. Too many factors distracted from their prized...
Read moreDepending on the tail you receive this is most likely the best you'll experience on the island. Located across from Playa Azul Hotel in the north zone, there are a few places together in a row for food. LA Cabana del Pescador (who is Fernando's father, operates a steak & lobster restaurant following a sad family dispute....next door). Jr's just has lobster in a beautiful open-air tropical location cut into the mangroves with water, hanging jugs of colored liquid, and even some ducks adding to the decor. Don't be fooled by the large roadside dinning area...it goes back into the groves over a little bridge. They don't seem to mind which restaurant you choose to enjoy, they both sell lobster by weight, if you want steak visit the father's place. Jr's grills the tail in garlic butter to perfection, not tough or chewy. They serve it with rice, mixed vegetables, Caesar's salad, and some good homemade bread. They also make a great margarita and have some appetizers but MAKE SURE you save some room for the best homemade key-lime pie you will ever find (and I have had many including up & down the Fla. Keys). There is a place selling just key-lime pies between the two restaurants, that is not the same as Jr's. Dinner for two with drinks and desert $112 US including tip; we picked the two biggest tails at $33 each. Just another fantastic restaurant on Cozumal....hard to find a bad meal on this island! Due to the location, with the water around there are mosquitos at dusk but they will offer you some bug spray that works perfectly. You must try this place for a exceptionally great dinner and service, kind of pricey for Cozumel but comparable in price for lobster "grilled to perfection" than others we tried. Willing to bet dad's place next door...
Read moreThe Original Lobster House in Cozumel, Mexico, offers a charming seaside dining experience with a relaxed and scenic atmosphere. While the restaurant is renowned for its fresh lobster dishes, my visit was a bit different due to a shellfish allergy. Despite not being able to indulge in the lobster, I still enjoyed a wonderful meal that showcased the restaurant’s commitment to quality.
The freshly prepared grilled chicken pasta stood out as a great alternative. The chicken was tender, perfectly grilled, and paired with al dente pasta in a flavorful sauce that made the dish satisfying and hearty. The warm bread served alongside was another highlight, with a soft interior and a crispy crust that made it the perfect accompaniment to the meal.
The signature margarita was a delightful addition to the experience. Served with just the right balance of tequila and lime, it was refreshing without being overpowering, making it an excellent choice for a seaside meal. The service was attentive, and the staff made sure that my allergy was well accommodated, offering alternatives and ensuring that I could still enjoy a memorable dining experience.
Overall, while I wasn’t able to sample the lobster, the atmosphere, service, and care put into each dish at The Original Lobster House make it a fantastic spot for seafood lovers and non-seafood lovers alike. The beautiful seaside view and quality food make it a...
