We took the recommendation of friends and gave this little seafood restaurant a try. We're so glad we did!
Somewhat off the beaten path at Callejon San Pedro #14, El Puerto Seafood is located near the intersection of 28 de Abril and Umaran. From the outside it is quite unassuming looking, but once inside it has a relaxed, welcoming, comfy vibe.
We were greeted and seated immediately. Our server promptly took our drink orders and gave us a while to peruse the menu. This was a good thing because the menu has dozens of choices and it made it very difficult to decide. The service was excellent, after our server took our food order she checked on us several times and offered to refill our drinks.
Stacy ordered the tuna carpaccio which was served with avocado, capers, and onion. She said it was phenomenal. I ordered the whole fried fish and it was cooked perfectly, crispy on the outside, tender and moist on the inside. My fish was served with rice and roasted potatoes. It was excellent. For dessert we shared a piece of coffee flan which I loved, but Stacy wasn't crazy about (she said my flan is much better). I was glad she didn't like it because it meant more for me 😅.
Service, atmosphere, and food were all top notch and when I got the bill I was shocked at how incredibly cheap it was--under 500 pesos for two beers, a limonada, two seafood dishes,...
Read moreDuring middle of April, 2023, we visited this small seafood restaurant following TripAdvisor’s recommendation. After a day’s walk in town, we came to this place for dinner. This is a small and clean place and family operated with very friendly staff. We ordered Puerto Progreso (grilled garlic shrimp) and Puerto Vallarta (fried whole fish). The taste and favor of the food were far beyond our expectation and were the best during our entire trip in Mexico. The taste could compare to food in the famous restaurant Quintonil in Mexico City except there is no delicate cloth napkin, no many waiters and no large space here. In fact we came back again next day and ordered the same food. Truly enjoyed the food here. If you are in the San Miguel de Allende, I strongly recommend you give a try. The price is very reasonable. They have English menu and the lady speaks English so you would not have...
Read moreExcellent food, and excellent service. We ordered the Morada ceviche, we thought this would be an appetizer small plate like in some many other places. We were pleasantly surprised to see this large plate. The ceviche was excellent, rich in seafood, avocado and cucumber. Ask for the mildest, even that was a bit too spicy for us. Our server recommended we only order one more plate of mariscos. She was right, after the ceviche, we were pretty full. We then had Camarones al mojo de ajo - large shrimps with garlic. It was excellent and different. I have had Camarones al ajillo, Spanish style many times and this was definitely competitive with those. We enjoyed the local atmosphere. This is not an American-targeted restaurant in town. It caters to the locals, both in price and also hours of operation, from 11:30 am through 7 pm. All in all, we enjoyed this place much. One of the...
