The 3 story climb is well worth the welcome! Just about any table in Zumo provides a beautiful view of San Miguel de Allende. We enjoyed the friendly welcome, comfy chairs, well appointed décor, wine list and range of offerings on the menu. We were here last year and many items this year were new. So if you’ve been to Zumo before you should certainly return to see what new culinary adventures are ready for consumption. And remember you are in Mexico, so each meal is an experience. Sit back, unwind and enjoy each sip and bite. They have a very nice wine list and change it and expand it throughout the season. (In fact, we saw the owners hosting a wine purveyor, along with wine tasting the next day.) They also have a well equipped bar with exotic and local cocktails. So you have plenty of beverages to choose from. We tried the short rib, ahi tuna, fig and goat cheese raviolis, and lamb chops. All amazing flavors, perfectly blended and yummy. This is a wonderful restaurant to try new dishes. I was skeptical about how they’d pull off all the profiles within the ahi tuna recipe, but everything was perfectly balanced! And my friend isn’t a fan of figs but tried the raviolis anyway and she loved it so much we returned the next day. And don’t miss dessert. The chocolate with home made peanut butter ice cream was divine and the crème brulee was creamy with just the right amount of sweet. They have plenty of after dinner drinks to indulge in, but we were so stuffed we had to come back the next day to enjoy what we missed. Their attentive staff are also great. And the owners are very hands on. Oh, and if you overindulge, just inquire if there is a room at Casa Kali. This is their well-appointed Bed and Breakfast in the...
Read moreWe booked our NYE celebration with Zumo ahead of time. I saw multiple ads on Open Table and Facebook with different prices ranging from 1000-2900 peso. I called the restaurant and the owner Stuart, picked up. We spoke for a bit and he told me the price would be $150 per person (or possibly less, depending on pandemic) and that it would be so warm, we would only need to bring a sweater...
When we came there, all of a sudden the price gone up to $400 for 2 people and it's freezing cold!?
It spoiled my mood and I stood up for myself... At first the manager argued and lied, but eventually the owner told him to charge us 6000 for 2 people... This made it somewhat better emotionally, but didn't help the blend, badly prepared food, and nothing to do in the freezing cold for several hours. It was too loud to call anyone or talk to each other, and nowhere to escape the almost 0° temperature...
Their "premium open bar" didn't have champagne to make a NYE toast - only bottles of champagne for sale.. and their espresso was a cheap Folgers coffee. 🤨
We don't mind paying for quality, but this was not it and the fact they do these kind of disrespectful acts is appalling. We had such amazing food in every other cafe in SMA for the fraction of the cost and with outmost respect from the locals. It makes me wonder what exactly make this mediocre rooftop cafe the high end spot they think they are...
The only 2 good things about this place were the nice band and the free firework show, which the city does. The waiters were also fine.
Conclusion: I do not recommend ZUMO for winter holidays or...
Read moreTerrible experience for Christmas Eve.
Bottom Line: There is no communication between them and also no professionalism to serve a vegetarian. Also, the food was extreme bland and rushed to the tables (pasta not al dente for example).
Elaborate Version: We made a reservation a month in advance asking for a vegetarian set menu and were told there would be no problem, quite the opposite happened. We also reminded them a day before that there would be one vegetarian with us and we reminded them a third time while choosing wine. I (the vegetarian) got served salmon twice and had to wait to the next course to get my order right, to add insult to injury I was brought undercooked pasta again this time with a lot of salt in it. The rest of the dishes were meh. We had to wait 20 minutes to get the check. In short, not worth the...
