La Terracita — Restaurant in Yucatán

We were there on a Monday at the end of January, so we were one of two tables of gringos. We had the entire, big place to ourselves, the food was tasty & we didn't have to cook it!

I had the fresh fish bakedin banana leaves with tomato & fresh lime juice...sublime...pun intended. The other three in our party enjoyed the "fried local treats" platter of empinadas etc & the fried chicken & another baked fish with peppers, olives & veggies.

It's a family business that I'm sure is absolutely rock'n in July & August. Don't be shocked...to our admittedley northern eyes it's a bit grubby & basic, but hey, we are what we are & we want to learn. I gave it three stars only because it's not fancy...but then, it's not trying to be.

The food was hot, fresh & tasty, the service was friendly, the beer was cold & it's good to support a neighbourhood business. I'd love to go with a big group of locals during their summer vacation, I'm sure it's a fiesta! I recommend this place if you don't want to walk far & you can leave your northern-ness...

This is a simple and friendly place. Sitting under the high roof of the place is delightful because of the sea breeze that manages to flow through it. You can't see the ocean but you can smell it. The foods are basic. Simple ceviches, fresh and well balanced. An impressive number of fish and shrimp options. It's fairly inexpensive. I had a large piece of mero grilled in garlic. It came on a plate with a dollop of refried beans and a very fresh salad. I asked for tortillas and got enough to make several fish tacos from what I was served.. I had 1 Dos Equis Amber beer. Really cold! the bill was $140 pesos, just under ten USD.. the staff was attentive and easy to communicate with. I was with three friends and we all enjoyed it. There was only one other couple dining in. Even though I don't speak English, they had someone that spoke very little English, but we were able to communicate enough to order. Coke was authentic with cane sugar and devine. I had seafood wrapped and fries in something. I don't know what, but it was delicious. I didn't take the pic until I started eating 🤷 I don't know whaty mother ordered, but she enjoued it. Service was great. I would recommend. They have stray cats around I am a huge cat person so this did not bother me one bit. I did feed the stray some tidbits. I think this is frowned on if there are people people dining, but there was only one other couple there and we were not...
