Mongolians restaurant has a nice vibe when you enter and the ambient music background doesn't interrupt your conversation. Excellent for having a good meal and a few beers. You can get some private rooms reserved with a small price. For most this may be a bit expensive but if you factor in the comfort and food quality, it makes up for it. Observations: The food is excellent and you would definitely have a taste of Mongolian food every time you enter. May have to wave a few times to get the waiters but they do provide individual table bells that are sometimes not very useful but at other times overly useful. Lunch times are always hectic, even at the most process oriented places, so please bear with it and keep reminding the waiters, because most of the time you'll have a great dish served. (I do not recommend negative communication with the waiters at any place as they have full control over whether you get the good stuff or the extra stuff, if you know what I mean) The next step up I would suggest would be to ask whether customers have any allergies. I for example have an allergy to mustard and would regularly have to ask to exclude mustard and one such occasion occured in Mongolians and I had forgotten to ask but as soon as I tasted, I realized that there was mustard in the food.
Long story below, short story is that I got a replacement which I'm thankful but I had to suggest that I get a replacement otherwise they'd be more than happy to charge me extra for 2nd course meal.
(long story) I called over the waiter and expressed that I had allergies but also hungry at the time. I also said that I didnt want to pay double to order another food that I originally wanted to enjoy (don't get me wrong, I usually ask whether there are any mustard but as this was Mongolians, I figured that they might not use mustard. My mistake). Thankfully, I ordered a lunch set which they had plenty in supply, so they gave me a new 2nd course for free, which I am thankful because I was starving at the time.
Recommendation is still a 3, because good environment with good food but your order gets lost quite a bit. Lunch times are great for a quick set meal but very conservative with their boortsog (which I think should be served everytime) and the customers love the boortsog. (I believe it translates to bakery with no cream or addition except for milk, sugar, and oil. Kind of like a finger buiscuit...
Read moreThe food is good, but a little expensive for what you get (portion size). There are some interesting showcases on display around the restaurant with historical artifacts like spear heads and old copper bowls. There are also 3 gers outside of which I am told will be open for use soon and you’ll be able to book them and hold your own meeting / function inside. Very friendly staff and nicely laid out restaurant. Some traditional Mongolian meals are available but mostly western / eastern type meals. Want to eat a whole pig? Bring along a few friends and order the horhog. Horhog is a traditional Mongolian meat dish. It is not a dish for two. Horhog cooking is a lot of fun. Meat cut in large chunks is cooked with hot stones until it forms a hearty stew. When the cooking is done, the stones are taken out first and given to all horhog eaters. While still hot and greasy, stones should be rolled between palms or held with fingers. Rolling or holding stones with hands is supposed to be good for health because Mongolians believe that the heat and grease from just cooked meat eliminates fatigue and...
Read moreCame here for Mongolian food but was refused to enter the restaurant. The Mongolian staff informed that non-reservation is not welcomed though I saw 90% of tables at that time were available. No one waited. Additionally, there was a review saying that walk-in is acceptable.
I was very curious about the reservations that she mentioned, so I checked how to reserve but found no information and no reservation gateways in the official page. I think she didn’t say the truth about the reservations.
If tables are truly fully booked, it’s ok. Just inform me that “Sorry, tables are fully booked” but she did not say that.
I hope this is not discrimination.
I communicated with staff in English so the language should not be a problem to enter...
