We can't let a best Italian restaurant (as some commented) pass by, so went to taste a few things. The first things presented after ordering were a bucket of bread (like in many Italian restaurant), and, rather than the common olive oil and balsamic vinegar or some paste, here a bowl of marinated olives that one finds in every Moroccan market (making one feel more that this is Morocco than this is an Italian restaurant). The ravioli Bava tasted very good, both the sources inside and outside. The lasagna Verde tasted also good. An issue was the pasta inside was too soft to be felt much. The saltimbocca then felt more like a failure to us. First we couldn't find the supposed prosciutto on it (maybe it was not used in this Muslim country). Then the escalope was too wet, lacking a minor crispy feel. The strong sour taste must be from the white wine but it's clearly not a good wine, resulting in some rotten feel on the meat. The presentation of the chocolate mousse was crude. We couldn't believe the standing piece was simply whipped cream. The bottom layer was the chocolate mousse. It tasted ok, but the chocolate was not of top quality I am afraid. Then we had Caffe Anna e Paolo. The coffee and whisky tasted great. The only problem was the ice cream totally disappeared when it arrived. The service was very basic. We didn't have the honour to meet Anna nor Paolo.

Anna e Paolo is one of Tangier, Morocco’s best Italian restaurants. It has consistently served classic pasta dishes, lasagne, salads and delicious desserts for several decades. There is a good selection of fine wines and a variety of beers, mineral waters and sodas. The restaurant is not huge, but it is attractive and relaxing. It is conveniently located on the corner of Rue Layfayette and Avenue Prince Héritier, behind the Chellah Hotel. I recently went to Anna e Paolo with a friend. He had an amazing pizza and I decided to try a lasagne. We were happy with our choices. Our orders were brought to our table in a reasonably short time by the polite and conscientious young waiter, who also brought an ice bucket for our gris wine. The homemade breads were warm and particularly good. All the tables are covered with white cloths and there are white cotton napkins. The seats are comfortable. You can’t go wrong by choosing to eat lunch or dinner here. Credit and debit cards are accepted.

Couzy, personal and small Italian restaurant with a French owner. Nice and tasty food but no wow feeling. The dessert (chocolate fondant with homemade ice cream) was really bad and tasted like a dry chocolate cake and is expensive for being Morocco. Friendly and service minded staff and waiters. Owner a bit distracted and did not even once asked us how the food taste.

Warning to all travelers! Beware of this place! The bad reviews do not lie!! You probably stumbled upon this restaurant from a listing or “best of” website claiming that this is the best Italian food in Tangier. This could not be further from the truth. We went there today and received some of the worst customer service imaginable(along with some really awful food). When the waitress seated us she brought us some burned, cold bread and olives. We were planning on ordering a pizza and a ravioli dish plus a dessert. The server waited 20 minutes after dropping off our menus to take our order (and only after us tracking her down to get her attention). At the time of our arrival there were only a handful of other guests in the restaurant and it was not busy in any form or fashion. When she took the order I asked how big the pizza was and she informed me that it was big enough for two people so we decided to only order that instead of two dishes. We ordered a pizza that stated on the menu that it had fresh tomatoes, basil and mozzarella cheese. We were brought a pizza that had those ingredients AND sardines. Rather than complain we picked off the fish. The pizza was 85 DH and was some of the most sub-par pizza I’ve eaten. The crust was burned and they didn’t even bother to fully cut it all the way. The waitress never returned to ask how the food was and came back approximately 5 other times to assist the family seated beside us(she also messed up the family’s order and gave incorrect items to the mother and daughter). We waited another 15 minutes for our check(which never came) so we decided to pay at the front. When I informed the cashier of our experience she rudely replied “We normally don’t even accept two customers who order only one plate.” I let her know this was all going in the review and the only other rude thing she could think to say was “Don’t come back here again”(as if that would ever happen). Lastly, it’s worth noting they charged an additional 5% of the check amount for a “service fee.” In closing all I can say is shame on you Paolo and Anne for claiming to be the best “Italian food” in Tangier when you are in fact the worst Italian food I’ve ever had(and I’ve had some REALLY bad Italian food). The only good thing that could ever come from this restaurant is an “out of business” sign next time I return!

P.S. I have no doubt that this restaurant will gaslight me in their response and make it seem like these things were all my fault rather than accept responsibility (just as they did in the restaurant) but don’t let their words fool you. There are much better, cheaper restaurants in Tangier located in the Souk and the hotel zone. You’ve all been warned! Be careful out there and...

Should patrons be charged a service fee for plates and table linens in a restaurant that charges a premium for mediocre pizza and pasta dishes? Apparently the owner of this place thinks so. I've never been billed a fee like this and initially mistook it for a gratuity even though the service could only be described as only adequate and not a smidge more. We noticed that another table received fresh butter with their bread and olives but we did not. So when I asked about it the waiter explained that there was butter in the fridge but that we had to request it. Really???? The food and wine prices are a little on the high side so a bit of generosity might be expected. The pizza was priced at 110 MAD and was no better than other restaurants in town that charge 60 or 70. The waiter was inexperienced and unpolished, never thinking to ask if everything was okay. When I stopped to mention all of the above to the owner on my way out he just shrugged and told me there were plenty of other restaurants in town and I should choose one of those and so I told him I would mention his curt comments in a review so there you are. Sadly, some business owners do not give a damn for their customers. This is one of those owners. Stingy, ill mannered and uncreative. If you choose to dine in this place perhaps ask for the spaghetti be served in the palm of your hand to avoid stupid and greedy little service fees, lackluster service and mediocre food. I don't recommend this restaurant and would not...
