I am fond of authentic Indian foods since I have travelled throughout India and have also eaten in other Indian restaurants in places such as Oxford and London, New York, Gibraltar, Lisbon and Tangier. And occasionally I make beef or chicken curry dishes at home, usually accompanied with basmati rice and chunky mango chutney.
I was informed by a friend that a new Indian restaurant called Indian Spice opened in Tangier in mid-September 2023.
Soon after, I walked to see the restaurant on the road to the left of Café Roxy, and examined the menu. I was happy to meet one of the waiters who told me that he was from the south of India. That was a good sign.
The modern space has attractive tables with a single rose in a vase, cushioned chairs, and white tablecloths and napkins.
It is quiet inside and I counted about ten customers at lunchtime (the restaurant opens a little later than most, at 2:00 PM).
After attending the world premiere of a film by a prominent filmmaker friend at the nearby Cinéma Roxy, I decided to walk around the corner with a friend to eat dinner at Indian Spice. We chose to eat at a table near the front entrance.
The Indian waiter I had met when I first visited the restaurant smiled upon seeing me, and he immediately brought my friend and I two menus.
Shortly thereafter we were brought some thin and crispy Indian bread to dip into the mango chutney, cucumber and a third somewhat spicy sauce.
My friend ordered a Schweppes Citron to drink with his lamb dish, and I ordered chicken Madras.
It took about 20 minutes for our sizzling hot dishes and appetizers to arrive. The main courses were served with some plain white rice, which we shared. The portions were good, and the large chunks of tender lamb and my chicken were more than enough to eat.
I thought my sauce a bit too hot, so the next time I eat at Indian Spice I will order a medium dish. But it was excellent nevertheless, and there were large chunks of chicken in the spicy sauce.
Although various desserts were available, we decided to leave early.
When it came time to pay, we discovered that credit and debit cards were not yet accepted, but cards are now accepted.
Beers and other alcoholic beverages are not yet sold, but hopefully soon Indian Spice will have a liquor license and more customers will eat at the restaurant.
I think this restaurant has the best Indian food in Tangier. It is simple and beautiful inside, a real tandoori oven is used in the kitchen, the service by the waiters is polite and fast, and most importantly, the food is authentically Indian and truly delicious.

Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Indian spice in Tangier, and I must say, it was an exceptional experience. As a lover of Indian cuisine, I was thrilled to discover this gem in the heart of the city.
The highlight of my meal was undoubtedly the chicken biryani. From the very first bite, it was clear that this dish was made with the utmost care and authenticity. The rice was perfectly cooked, each grain separate and infused with the rich, aromatic spices that define a great biryani. The chicken was tender and flavorful, marinated to perfection, and cooked just right.
The balance of spices was impeccable, providing a burst of flavors that was both intense and harmonious. The accompanying raita added a refreshing contrast, enhancing the overall experience. It was evident that the chef has mastered the art of biryani, making it one of the best I have ever tasted.
To add to the wonderful experience, I had the pleasure of meeting the Malayali owners of the restaurant. Their warmth and hospitality made me feel incredibly welcome and added a personal touch to my visit. It's clear that their passion for sharing authentic Indian cuisine with the world is at the heart of this restaurant.
The ambiance of the restaurant added to the overall experience, with a warm and inviting atmosphere that made me feel right at home. The staff was attentive and courteous, ensuring that my dining experience was top-notch.
If you find yourself in Tangier and craving authentic Indian cuisine, I highly recommend Indian spice. The chicken biryani alone is worth the visit, and meeting the wonderful owners made the experience even more special. I am eager to return and explore more of their menu.
Overall, a fantastic dining experience that I won't soon...

As soon as we entered we were warmly welcomed by the staff that took the pleasure of explaining the whole menu according to our taste. They were making sure, asking questions about wether we wanted our dish to be mild/medium/hot spicy or sweet. I personally cannot handle spice so they were pretty understanding of that. They have also explained the ingredients of the dishes and recommended some Indian juices that were not included in the menu. The food was a chef’s kiss. We ordered chicken Samosa for entry, which was extremely delicious and was accompanied with a tasty sweet chili sauce. We had Chicken Tikka Masala, which was not spicy at all, and Chicken Madras which was spicy to my taste but moderate to my friends’. The Naan was heavenly, especially the cheese one. The restaurant was also very clean and well-decorated, they were playing a beautiful indian playlists which was adjusted to the right level for a great dining experience.
To sum it all, definitely add this restaurant to your list! I’ve had indian food in multiple other countries but i can easily say this one...
