I think the best way to describe this place is ‘on the edge’. Not bad. Some good and definitely an experience. The wild cats roaming through the restaurant keep diners on their toes, if you’re lucky, you might feel the swoosh of a tail against your leg under the table, or, you might get the full Dar Josephine experience of having one leap on the table and take a nibble from your cous cous. The food was good however, some interesting mixes of dishes, the aforementioned cous cous had an exceptional cinnamon, sultana and onion relish on in with tasty beef meatballs with lots of fresh herbs and my friend had the Acra which had a beautiful orange marmalade and chickpea flour balls. The starters weren’t amazing, but passable enough, with decent Moroccan flatbread. The service was what we have come to expect in Morocco, lovely staff with no sense of urgency and definite time blindness, I would advise to order in anticipation of any hunger you may have. The crockery whilst pretty & eclectic was a bit hit and miss with massive chunks missing out of some of the serving dishes and plates. It was a shame that we were dining in on one of the few rainy days in Taghazout, and so the restaurant's outdoor seating wasn't really up to the job, but on a nicer evening this would be lovely. The high point of the night was definitely the car vomiting on the restaurant floor as we were waiting to pay. As I said,...
Read moreRestaurant Dar Josephine: The food at Dar Josephine was very delicious and probably some of the best I’ve had here in Morocco so far. I got the roasted chicken with browned potatoes and it was pretty alright, the chicken was perfectly tender and the potatoes was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside however all of the food was covered in a odd tasting seasoning!!! My family ordered the vegetarian lasagna and a dish called accra which was a salad with vegetable “meatballs” and a orange chutney. They all really loved that food. So now you may be thinking ‘why would I rate Dar Josephine so low if the food was really good?’ Well to be completely honest the service sucked. The waiter walked away while we were giving him our order so we had to wait an additional 5 minutes to get the rest of the tables drinks. When the rest of my family was finished with their meal he came to grab their plates, i was still sitting eating my food, only half way through and grabbed my plate. I then had to tell him four times that I wasn’t finished eating and that he couldn’t take my plate. When that has been said they had really good vegetarian options and all of the food tasted fresh and homemade! Overall I rate Dar Josephine a...
Read moreThe atmosphere of this place is really nice and cozy, especially opposed to some other restaurants in the area. I liked the taste of the food, I ordered the fresh fish of the day which was simply seasoned but had a fresh dip on the side. However, I got only a handful of fries.
The service is nothing extra, you don't really feel like being in a luxurious restaurant or anything. They left our plates on the table as we finished the main course.
The prices are pretty high. They also charge you for the bread and water which they put on the table as you sit down. Yes, this isn't a street food but still we are in Morocco and I feel like the gastro prices here are so exaggerated! I don't really think the prices meet the value.
I am not saying the restaurant is bad - if you feel like splurging and you don't care about a few hundred dirhams, then go for it! But make sure to make a reservation at least one day in advance, otherwise you might end up staying in a queue only to realise you are not getting a...
