6-STAR TASTEBUD-HEAVEN
We have been trying vegan food in Marocco for weeks now, and found very good dishes, but nothing compares to Redclay Cafe!!!
I read the glowing reviews on HappyCow and found an average of 4.9 stars on Google. So we were coming with high expectations.
Well, we have now spent 3 consecutive days there, and the food (and staff) is just beyond.
This is by far the best vegan place we have found in Marocco.
THE FOOD: The first day I came with 2 friends, one of them runs a Vegan restaurant in Belgium. We were in full agreement that the dishes and tastes were amazing.
Coming back 3 days in a row, I can say that the amazing tastes are consistent.
They have a small menu, which we, amongst friends, have pretty much tasted completely by now. Ingredients are very fresh and prepared in-house.
The savory dishes are complete heaven. Very nourishing and tastes that are extremely refined. We loved them all. The portions were great and perfect size.
The sweets, bakery, and desserts are just wow. (the chocolate cake, oh my)
We loved the drinks! Try the Golden Latte, loved it!
THE STAFF is amazing, extremely kind, and helpful.
On the first day I asked if they could pack some food for my girlfriend, who was still in the hostel with a swollen food. The cook came to hear us out and made an extra effort to bring back a great meal to her.
Every day we went, we were met with the same kindness and engagement. Their English is very well (which is mostly not the case in Marocco)
LOCATION
Red Clay is on the main road of Taghazout. The first day we sat outside, very sunny and nice. On the second day we sat inside, as the music of the neighboring restaurant was very loud and interfered with the music of Red Clay cafe.
Both the inside and outside tables are very clean and tidy. The decorations are simple but give a very homely feeling.
The kitchen is open and small, you can directly see the staff (and thank them!), which is really nice. They have a great atmosphere as a staff also.
The music was great (of course, tastes will differ)
DOWNSIDES?
The only thing I would change is adding some more rotating dishes for return customers like myself.
Apart from that, this place is by far the best we have encountered in Marocco.
If you want to have exquisite foods, this is the place to be.
Pros: Best vegan dishes we found in Marocco, Extremely kind and excellent staff, Amazing bakery and drinks.
Cons: Add a few dishes for repeat costumers😄, Closes at 17hrs, so...

Red Clay is one of these places that come into your life as easily as you take a seat on its lush terrace : it's well decorated, very homey, with little details everywhere to grab your attention while you're getting excited about your order. To be fair, that's where it gets tricky : you will crave the whole menu !
It's all vegan, all home-made (even the bread !), and all terribly mouthwatering (but you can actually make this awkward by staring at your neighbours' dishes - every soul in this place is friendly and easy to talk to). The food tastes like coming back tomorrow. And the day after. And every damn day. Did you hear about the infamous breakfast burrito or the legendary brookie ? And the specialty coffee ??? No to flat waves, yes to flat whites.
And then there's the staff, ie. hospitality at its best. They care : they love what they do, they love to see you back and if you have a little chat, they are likely to remember your face and even your name months after your first visit. Also the sweetest street dogs and cats can have a nap here, so there's always a furry friend to pet. Cannot recommend this place enough !
Side note : complaints about their wifi being pretty much non-existent aren't really fair. It's a proper restaurant, so maybe keep the laptop in the bag, enjoy a break here, and then find a spot in one of the many lovely dedicated co-working...
Read moreEven with free breakfast at my hostel, many of us still dined at Red Clay Cafe for coffee and pastries almost everyday over the week we spent in Taghazout. Amazing spot for breakfast, brunch, remote working, a mid-day pick me up, or just to hang out and people watch. A filtered water carafe comes with dine in service and the wifi is great. Their drinks and food are incredible, but I also dined here because I loved supporting a Vegan & zero waste business. If you do need to order a take-away drink, you will be served it in a beautifully crafted clay cup, which supports local artisans. The best part is you may either choose to take the cup home with you, or bring it back for 10 MDH off your next drink. Overheard a customer come by asking to purchase a couple cups before they left town, to which the owner replied they only give them out with take away drinks to curb waste, and would rather them go across the street to purchase cups from the...
