SHOCKING RACIST COLONIAL SCULPTURES displayed in this fancy bar / restaurant that makes you go back go the 1960s era.
Yesterday, we visited the old town ('Medina') as tourists and contemplated going to the 'Love by caravane' bar after a quick Google search. It had good online ratings and the building looked attractive from the outside.
While the service, food, drinks and architecture were absolutely lovely - there were plenty of typical colonial figurines portraying black people in a racist way. Why on earth would the owner display in this touristy restaurant/ bar grotesque colonial sculptures depicting Africans / blacks in such a racist representation is a wonder to us.
This was very awkward, I would not recommend for any black or BAME (non-white) person nor to any white educated and non-racist person.
Weirdly the clientele was mainly white, French-speaking, and over 50-60 years old. Seems like the whole place, which was rather posh, was stuck in an era which should remain a thing of the past, not in some weird post-colonial melancholia mood. And really not a...
Read moreEXTREMELY disappointed! It was my partners birthday and wanted to treat him to a nice meal and was upset with the falseness of what I saw about this place.
The evening started off well, having the fish cakes and the vegetable briouat (even though it was under cooked), and when our mains arrived we were shocked of how deceiving it was. Our mains were bland, flavourless, luke warm, not seasoned and overall not good. The shrimps tasted rubbery and were overcooked, rice was bland and cold, salad was just sad to see and dry! beetroot puree spread on our plate didn’t add anything but just colour. For the price what a joke. We were shocked to see a magician come to our table maybe as a distraction from the bad food, shame he couldn’t make some seasonings appear. DO NOT GO unless you would like all show and no taste.
Also! We saw seven chefs! How can our food pass SEVEN CHEFS without an ounce of flavour. We asked for bill to three waiters multiple times and had to go to front desk and pay without a smile.
The only seasonings you’ll find is out in the market...
Read moreI came with such expectations, and only a part of them were put into action. We set upstairs, the place was full of people, the service was very kind and the owner wanderes around the guests, verifying that everyone is happy. The decoration was marvelous, so as the entertainment that included dancers, singers, fire juggling and magician! It took some time for the main dishes to arrive, but we didn't care since it was all entertaining. The food part was the problematic. The poke bowl came with no rice, but it was nice. For main dishes we ordered ribs and steak fillet- both of them came cold, and the lamb was undercooked and hard to chew. The waiter took the plate and suggested a different dish, but other than that there was no compensation. Another waiter said that he wants to move us downstairs where the show took place, but it didn't happen. Since it was so crowded it felt like we were swallowed up in the crowd, and didn't get that attention you expect from this kind...
