Debonairs Pizza Mao Tse Tung — Restaurant in Maputo

4 stars are accurate… for like 2 years ago and earlier maybe lol.

I will be talking about the ‘Debonairs Chicken’ in this review.

The Pizza

The pizza base is not risen at all it really is more like a flavourless flatbread like flat as a plate (would’ve said as a board but I’m pretty sure boards are thicker). Apart from the white sauce, the pizza lacks flavour. It has this doughy texture that almost feels uncooked and like someone chewed it for you and then fed it to you (TMI, I apologize but it’s the best way to put it) The chicken tastes synthetic, if it came in a toy box with instructions on how to revive it, I wouldn’t be surprised. This pizza doesn’t taste at all like its South African counterpart and pales in comparison.

Service

First incident: I called, ordered and when the time came to pick the pizza up they tried to gaslight me into thinking I called the other Debonairs, I then dialed the number I had previously called and they had the nerve to pick up.

Second incident: I called, ordered and got back home with half a pizza. Drives back for them to cackle and say “Oopsie that’s our special pizza” and “Sorry the person who made the mistake just left”. They did give me the right pizza though…20 mins later

Third incident: After ordering they said that it would be ready in 15 mins… I took 30 to arrive and still waited an extra 15.

They don’t take your complaints, they don’t value your time or gas money either.

Atmosphere + Service

They say they open at 11 AM, and I don’t mean Google says so, they say so. If you call them and ask if they are open and ready to serve they’ll tell you “yes”. Once you get there though, they are likely still cleaning up, sweeping and mopping, “excuse me” swipe swipe. If they get there before opening hours to prep the food and the place, they end up doing everything but, more times than not they will be sweeping the kitchen floor with the pizzas in the oven if you get there at...

I requested delivery a midium size pizza, and a coke total 800 mtn almost 12 dolars! My mistake I tought it was a medium size pizza and a coke of at leat 500cc to 1 liter with that price. I had to add the coke as they do not do delivery for orders less than 800. They took 1 hour to bring a very small personal pizza with one coka can. When i say very small I mean it! it was almost the size of the napkins! They insisted that was the midium pizza! And the delivey did not bring change , I told him to go get change, that trip took hm 5 minutes. The small pizza just ok and not hot, the shop is at 500meter from wher I was. Debonairs is losing its quality standards. The people they have answering phones are very rude and rush the client. Result: the lady got our phone number incorrectly, and the delivery guy couldn’t reach us. After an hour and half waiting we called back and they said that they had been trying to call and we didn’t answer. The delivery guy came back with cold and dry pizzas - they didn’t even bother to heat them up. Knowing the brand from SA, and its quality standards, this is very disappointing. I hope they improve, because they have lost me...
