South Beach — Restaurant in Maputo

Have Been there twice : First time, I ordered a simple strawberry mojitos, have waited for 50 min. When I was sipping my drink, a group of girls asked me to change seats coz they wanted a better spot for pictures.. A bit speechless so I went for a walk.

Second time I went with friends as some recommended the sushi combo. Food is better than average but no highlight. However the service was horrible. There are two stories to be told :

A friend of mine asked for a glass of dry martini and pointed at the item in the cocktail menu to make sure the waiter gets the right one, which is around 550mt. About 15 min later the waiter came to show the bottle. Again 15 minutes later, he came with 3 glasses and one whole bottle and began to serve. I was a bit surprised as he didn’t ask for the bottle but the waiter has already served the drinks. A bit Too quick to call stop. My friend didn’t want to make a fuss so he asked the price of the bottle, more than 5000 mt. He was prepared to pay for it and kept silence but second thought, the behavior of the waiter has nothing to do with honesty. He asked for the manager, explained the situation. The manager asked the waiter to bring the menu, he brought three times but none of that is right. We went to the counter, asked for the cocktail menu and found it. We were ready to compromise to pay 3 glass (1650mt). The manager insisted on the fact that a bottle was served so we should pay for the bottle. I pointed out the scam calmly. The manager stepped back and insisted that we should pay for the consommation so he would need to mesure it. In the end we were charged for 2000 MT for even less than 1/5 conso of the bottle…

As for main dish, two friends of mine ordered a T-bone. They waited for 2 hours… That even explained how tired we were to dine in this chic restaurant and gave up reasoning and defending the right of customers…

Conclusion : Resto arnaque, A FUIR !

I came to this place as it was the most recommended by colleagues who had visited Maputo previously on work trips. This was a work trip for me too, so after a long day at work my colleagues and I decided to go try it out! While the venue is clean, great atmosphere (beach front), great music and overall very aesthetically pleasing to the eye! The service though was pretty disappointing. It takes close to 40 minutes to get a simple mojito cocktail and even longer for the food to come, now i understand that they might be busy but i went on two nights Saturday-busy and Sunday not busy at all but it took the same amount of time to be served! It was so disappointing! To make it worse you are going to be seated in an environment where the supervisor/manager will be acting so arrogantly and vile towards the staff all in the view of us customers. JP is his name, he shouts and uses finger gestures to the staff apnd smokes a cigarette throughout the night.
