Vanilla Gelado Italiano — Restaurant in Maputo

I have been a loyal customer to Vanilla and always enjoy their service and tasteful ice cream flavours. However for the past two visits in one week, I have been disappointed at the service.

On my first visit this week, I asked for black tea and after my friends both got their crepe’s given, my tea wasn’t ready. I decided to leave and not have it as one hour wait was too long. I then realised that the lady beside me was having a black tea and the workers were trying to get her to finish quickly. They only had one tea pot. I would have appreciated if someone had told me as I would choose a different item. Poor lady in the back, had her tea time disrupted due to lack of inventory management.

On my second visit, I ordered a crepe. The crepe came with a piece of hair lying at the top. I quickly called the server and asked for another one. They served me another one. The cashier wasn’t wearing a hair covering. Considering that they touch money, they shouldn’t be touching food. Nor should they be in the kitchen area without hair protection. I was disappointed at the health precautions.

Lovely creamy gelato! You can tell they take good care of their food, as they respect the delicate nature of the gelato-making process. They said they had to throw out a number of flavours as they had melted, and had to make them again from scratch! (Which just shows that they aren't the type of place to re-freeze their gelato, which would jeopardise the flavour and quality.) We tried the pistachio flavour and had cappuccinos (which were very big!) The staff were super friendly, speaking great English and were very helpful with our indecisiveness. They also let us try a scoop of freshly made Snickers flavour (a staff favourite) as it wasn't ready when we were making our choices. I visited this ice cream shop a year ago, and I still can't get over how fantastic everything was. From the moment I walked in, the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The ice cream was out of this world—creamy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. I also tried their waffles, and they were absolutely delicious—crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and a great pairing with the ice cream.
