Melung Thakali Kitchen, Baluwatar This was my second visit, and once again, the food impressed with its simplicity, cleanliness, and authentic taste. Portions are generous, and the staff is polite and welcoming. While the service was slightly delayed, it’s understandable given the busy lunch rush.

I ordered the mutton Thakali set, which featured a flavorful mutton curry with a homestyle gravy that felt comforting. The potato fry was tasty, though there’s still room for improvement.

The one real letdown was the bandel dish. We specifically asked for the traditional boiled/steamed version, but what arrived was mostly fat and skin with barely any meat. This definitely needs the attention of the owners—there should be a fair balance of meat and fat to do justice...

Edit June 2025 2nd visit, at first the service was slow, took a while to order, it picked up once the food came. Had asala fish again, it tasted fresh and the gravy was tasty. Plain lassi however took that 1 star away, they literally took yoghurt and little water and stirred it instead of putting it in the blender. Nice place with good service. Ordered mutton khana set and veg set with Asala Fish on the side. Not impressed with the veg set, mutton was average but the fish stole the show.
