⭐ One star for what feels like a food scam.
Newari cuisine is a proud identity of Kathmandu’s rich food culture and stands shoulder to shoulder with global cuisines like French. Sadly, places like this not only damage our culinary heritage but also mislead diners—especially travelers—about what authentic Newari food truly is.
Most of the dishes were fried in extremely poor-quality oil that should have been discarded long ago. The bhutan was greasy and unpleasant, samay baji looked average but tasted terrible, and the whole fried fish was rubbery with an overpowering taste of rancid oil. The bara was dry, chiura felt stale, the saag and sandheko achar had started to smell from being left out unrefrigerated, and the so-called chhoila tasted nothing like it—just over-fried fish. To make matters worse, everything was over-salted.
No restaurant should be allowed to operate in such a way. If you visit here, go only for the ambience, not for authenticity or taste.
To the Newa Ghasa team: please hire professionals who respect our food heritage. Don’t play with consumers’ health. You don’t need to underprice your menu—raising prices is acceptable if the quality and authenticity are maintained. Food is a sensitive matter; it should nourish, not endanger.
I sincerely hope to see major improvements in both quality and authenticity on...

We recently visited Newa Ghasa with high expectations, but unfortunately, we were very disappointed with the food. The Haas Choila was extremely underwhelming—bland, dry, and lacking the authentic Newari flavor we were hoping for. The Chicken Chilli was no better: overly greasy and oddly sweet, with tough chicken pieces that didn’t taste fresh at all.
We really felt bad after the meal, especially since we were looking forward to enjoying traditional flavors. Sadly, it didn’t live up to the hype. Hope the management takes feedback seriously and works on improving...
