Altro — Restaurant in Île des Terres Basses

I had the worst birthday celebration ever at Altro Restaurant. I visited on 03-18-25 to celebrate, and unfortunately, my experience was ruined by the French waiter working that night. When I asked if there was anything other than seafood on the menu, he started yelling at me, saying, “If you don’t like the menu, you can go to the restaurant down the street. It will be cheaper and within your budget. I can even make a reservation for you.” I never once mentioned anything about price. My friends don’t eat seafood, and I simply wanted to know if there were other options available.

This man ruined my birthday celebration and made it the worst one yet. Altro Restaurant needs to either observe their employees better or train them properly because I’ve never encountered such unprofessional behavior before. Dining at Altro in St. Martin was easily one of the most memorable culinary experiences we’ve had. We visited in June 2024 and opted for their 3-course menu, which delivered on every level. Each course was thoughtfully prepared, bursting with flavor, and beautifully presented. The dessert was a standout—perfectly sweet and satisfying without being overpowering.

Great food. Great service. It is more of an upscale place, but very inviting. It was a 3 course set menu when we went, but they did let you customize for different items and adjusted the price accordingly. Recommend stopping here to enjoy a decent meal.

Update 2024: Great food, lazy waiter. Still the same motto there 😂. All seriousness still great service and wonderful food. Same set menu option from previous years, but different ingredients. This time we went ala carte style. Chalkboard set menu. Very good food. I still recommend this place for date night or a group. Reservation is recommended, but we were able to walk up and wait 10 mins. Plenty of places to sit...
