Real Japanese Ramen tastes different. It is something our wife or mother prepares for us. It's simple, has some meat or fish and vegetables in it. It's flavor is mainly caused by cooking the meat with the water and vegetables before the Ramen is added. Sometimes some Miso sauce or powder is added. The taste of their Ramen was predominantly caused by the addition of fresh red onions. For me this actually ruined the taste of Ramen. Ramen is eaten mostly during lunch or in the morning, so it should be light and not have to strong flavors.
The same evening and night my stomach was hurting and I think it was because the chicken in the Ramen was not properly cooked.
The original ramen that my wife ordered had a fish flavor (clearly artificial), but it had no fish (should be shrimp) but chicken instead. As a result the taste was awful.
Also, the waiter servicing us clearly had no fun in doing his job.
We have not tried their other menu's but would definitely not come for a Ramen lunch anymore. And since I had problems with my stomach the same day I'll avoid this place.
It's a pity too many, so called Japanese restaurants, are not actually run by Japanese and/or have a Japanese chef. The only real Japanese restaurant I know is in the Okura hotel.
There are a few Ramen restaurants that, allthough not run by Japanese, serve real Ramen and other Japanese food. One of them is...

We found out that this ramen has a very good ratings according to google. We were really excited to try this out as we were already in town...
PLUS • The food was delicious • Neat restaurant, simple seatings but very cosy • Very friendly japanese waiter who spoke english and politely (the one who have a mole on his face, YOU ROCK and thank you for your hospitality! • open kitchen with japanese chefs (both chefs who worked on this night 6 OCT) YOU ROCK! The food was lovely! Big thumbs up! These 2 stars are earned by you and the the humble japanese waiter
MINUS • Poor menu selection • Rude waiter (especially this particular person who we think is the “supervisor” - who was working tonight 6 oct 2018) Yes you know who you are, short bearded guy who speaks dutch. • Rude to children, addressing kids unproperly, rudely asking a 7 year old kid “ to pass a hot bowl of HOT soup!” to the other side of the table instead serving it as it should be! Making unnecessary rude comments about how messy the other kid was (mind you she just turned 1yr old) what do you expect if you give her rice? • As you can read.... NOT CHILD FRIENDLY!
We were definitely annoyed of this guy and we aren’t expecting a 5 star service but this is just a NO GO!
To the respective owner of this restaurant we definitely recommend you to get this waiter/personnel a...
Read moreWe had a reservation at 17:30 for a group of eight. The evening started off well – everyone placed their orders, and we enjoyed our meal together as a family.
Towards the end, some of us decided to order dessert, and most chose the matcha ice cream. My wife was still eating her ramen, so I waited a bit, thinking we might order dessert together.
When the desserts were brought out, I decided to ask for one as well. The waitress looked at me with an annoyed and almost furious expression, as if to say, “Couldn’t you have ordered that earlier?” I was so taken aback I didn’t quite know how to respond. I apologised and said I’d like to order one too, but her attitude and body language were so dismissive – as if I was bothering her – that I simply said, “Never mind.”
It was a very rude and unwelcoming experience, and not how guests should be treated in a restaurant.
I highly recommend Ishii Ishii – Okonomiyaki and Japanese home cooking (https://g.co/kgs/tLoKh6s) instead. There, you’re warmly welcomed, treated with respect, and the food is even better.
This was our first and definitely our last visit to Takeichi Amstelveen.
