⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Last weekend, during our ferry ride from North to West, we decided on a whim to finally visit Bonjour Caphe. It’s not an area I usually cycle by, but this spot had been on my list for quite some time. Ever since visiting Vietnam in 2017, I’ve been in love with the fresh herbs, banh mi baguettes, and all the unique coffee specialties. I especially adored Cong Caphe back then and could never find their coconut coffee again – until now.
From the moment we walked in, the service stood out. Genuine, warm, and never rushed. We were welcomed with water on the house, and the lady behind the counter kindly guided us through the options.
We started with the Banh Mi Thap Cam (the iconic). It arrived quickly, and we finished it just as fast – too fast to even take a photo. Every bite tasted different: the fresh herbs, tangy pickles, pork floss (please sell this separately, I’d be your most loyal customer!), cold cuts, and sauces blended into what I can honestly say was the best sandwich I’ve ever had in Amsterdam. It instantly brought me back to my Vietnam holiday. The portion was generous, too.
Alongside, we tried the coconut cà phê sữa đá (with condensed milk). Creamy, sweet, and refreshing – almost like a dessert in itself. We had only planned to order one dish, but couldn’t resist trying more.
Kevin came over to our table and shared his story about starting Bonjour Caphe, his time in Saigon, his first 25m² place in Dam, and his adorable mom who inspired much of this. It felt like such a personal homage to Vietnamese cuisine.
We then tried another dish, fittingly called “the love of his life.” It was unlike anything I’d had before – tangy, fresh, crunchy, with shrimp, coriander, nuts, rice paper noodles, and an incredible mix of flavors and textures. This time, we did remember to take a photo before finishing it!
Everything came at just the right pace, and the quality was exceptional. In a city where service often disappoints, Bonjour Caphe truly stood out as a highlight. I rarely return to the same place quickly (as I love to try new spots), but here I genuinely want to come back and try the entire menu.
A true gem in Amsterdam – both for its food and...
Read moreFinally I’ve found a Vietnamese restaurant/café that serves authentic, unique & delicious Vietnamese street food in Amsterdam 😭✨
I was so happy when I saw Xôi (sticky rice), Bánh mì & Bánh Tráng Trộn (rice paper salad) on the menu. We decided to try the classic/traditional version of these dishes, and they did not disappoint! 🫶🏻
The Savory iconic sticky rice is what we would typically have for breakfast in Vietnam. The toppings include Vietnamese cha siu pork, Vietnamese ham, Chinese sausage, pork floss, pickled carrots & cucumbers 🥒 This version was delicious🤤 The sticky rice & toppings were perfectly prepared 🍚 Definitely a must-try! (And no, pork doesn’t make you unhealthy! Just try it!)
The classic bánh mì here has cha siu pork, pate (of course!), cucumbers and pickled carrots🥖 Of all the bánh mì in Amsterdam, this tastes the closest to the ones in Vietnam. The bread had a nice crispy crust but still fluffy. The ratio of meat to veggies was great 👌 And I loved the chili paste in there - tasted like the ones in Vietnam 😭🌶️
Rice paper salad is called “Love my life” 🫶🏻 It is one of the most beloved street food in Vietnam. The rice papers are cut into strips and tossed in a wonderful savory, sweet, sour and spicy sauce. The toppings of sour mangoes, fried shallots, peanuts & Vietnamese ham added a variety of textures & flavors ✨ If you love bold Vietnamese flavors, you will love this! 🤤
We also tried the iced coconut coffee & banana coffee ☕️ Both tasted good, and I was impressed by the banana coffee - so unexpectedly yummy! 😋 However, I’d prefer my Vietnamese coffee a bit stronger, and also the size to be larger since these 2 cost €8 each 🥲
Overall, I’m so impressed and happy with the food from @bonjourcaphe 🤍 I love that they portray the real & authentic Vietnamese flavors and not water them down to cater to the Dutch taste. I’ll certainly come back here often. Please try for yourself and...

I'm kicking myself for not capturing some moments, especially during the sake tasting. So, do yourself a favor and book a slot ASAP. This is an experience you won't want to miss!
