Buon Gusto Deli — Restaurant in Amsterdam

I was looking for a place to have lunch. Surprisingly there are very few places open for lunch! I walked more than 2 miles back to my hotel. Thank goodness Buon Gusto Deli was open for lunch until 3pm.

The waitress (also the bar tender) was very friendly, even though she seemed to be doing everything by herself. I ordered a chicken Caesar salad. It was very unique and delicious. I’ve never had a Caesar salad like it. It had hard boiled eggs on it, anchovies, and the chicken tasted like it was bourbon chicken- a little sweet. It came with a side of whole grain bread and chive butter. It was also delicious. Altogether my salad was €16. The bill did not include a tip and there was not an option to leave one.

They have a lovely place to sit outside. I presume that it is usually pretty windy in that location on the bay.

Went with wife and sister to establishment (7/15/2022). From the moment we stepped in the establishment we felt something was off. The staff member that attended us seemed extremely distant and didn’t pay attention to us at all. It seems they treat tourists different than locals. There’s a sign saying to let them know if your local. I thought it might have been there to let locals know of certain discounts but now I know it’s a means for them to treat you in a certain way. While at least we got to have some water, the staff member didn’t pay attention or give us a spec of interest for the rest of the evening. After what seemed to be a lifetime (20 minutes or more) we decided to end our tumultuous relationship with this staff member and deli. I see other reviews had a great experience. I am staying in Amsterdam on business and I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of this new restaurant. The hotel I was staying at recommended it, and I am glad I heeded their advice. The Panini I got was one of the most delicious sandwiches I've had in years. Excellent quality and delicious taste. The service was also quick and friendly.
