Made’s Warung Amsterdam is one of the best spots in the city—quietly outstanding without the fuss. It’s a casual, low key kind of place with counter service where you pick from a great selection of meats, veggies, rice, and noodles to build your plate. Then they artfully plate your order serving hot Balinese art! If the weather is nice they set up casual but very comfortable outdoor seating and sometimes carry fresh coconuts for coconut water which goes perfectly with the meal.
What makes it even more special is that it’s family-run—the dad, mom, son, and daughter all involved. The food quality, the service, the cleanliness, and just the friendly, down-to-earth vibe from everyone working there is consistent every time.
The flavors? Spot on. Rich, balanced, and bursting with authentic Indonesian spices that never get boring—they’re comforting and exciting all at once. After a brief and horrible experience elsewhere, I googled for an Indonesian restaurant in the same area and Made's Warung popped up. The guy working there was so helpful. Letting me know not to get the rijsttafel as that would be too much for 1, but showed me all the different dishes that I could put on a plate. And everything was delicious with a good amount of spice but not overwhelming so. There was one dish I picked that indidnt like, but that was on me. If you're looking for a non pretentious place that's worth checking out in Amsterdam, this is it. And it's along the tram 2 line from Centraal so easy to...
