Here, you can hike the countless trails or ride a bike around to spot charming bandstands and even a sculpture by Picasso along the way. Have a picnic by the pond as herons and ducks waltz past or pop by one of the many cafes in the park. You might want to visit between April and May to see the park awash with tulips in bloom or between May and September to watch live concerts at the open-air theater. Read moreVondelpark is, without a doubt, the most beautiful and popular park in Amsterdam. It's an unparalleled oasis of peace in the Dutch capital, brought to life by scenic canals, charming water features, elegant monuments, and well-maintained gardens covering nearly 50 hectares.
With expansive green spaces, fragrant rose gardens, playgrounds, and lively open-air cafés, Vondelpark offers the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city center. Both tourists and locals love it for its relaxing ambiance and natural beauty.
The park is open all day, with its main entrance on Stadhouderskade. You can easily reach it by public transport—tram lines 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 12, or 20—or even by boat, getting off at stops 5 or 6. But take my advice: rent a bike. There’s no better way to explore Amsterdam, and riding through Vondelpark is an experience in itself.
It takes about 20–25 minutes to walk through the park at a leisurely pace. The full park area is around 4.12 km (120 acres), and there’s a popular 3.3 km loop trail that’s ideal for jogging or walking.
Vondelpark is a vibrant hub where people come to run, bike, rollerblade, picnic, or simply relax. On sunny days, the park comes alive with activity, and it's not unusual to stumble upon a live concert or open-air event.
There are also a few great restaurants and cafés within the park—some even serve alcohol—making it the perfect spot to stop for a meal or a refreshing drink. One of my favorite memories from Amsterdam was cycling through the park and pausing to enjoy delicious food and drinks in such a...
Read moreVondelpark is absolutely stunning. The design of the park is wonderful, with plenty of places to rest and many photo opportunities with the ponds, plant life and birds. Vondelpark is immaculate and the plant life is well maintained with wild areas to shelter and hide the creatures living in the park. We always take the No.2 Tram from Centraal Station and get off at Amstelveensweg and then walk to the top entrance of the park. There is a cafe just at the entrance with a play place for children. There is a splash pad and park equipment a little way into the park and areas where live music events often play. This year's Pride events took place in Vondelpark and it was a lovely atmosphere of celebration, without feeling crowded.
Groot Melkhuis at the center of the park is a lovely cafe with a huge children's play area and a quieter area facing the river for adults. The prices are reasonable and it is a relaxing spot.
There are bike paths running right through the park so be mindful of the path you're taking. It really is breathtaking. You can exit Vondelpark at multiple points, but I recommend walking right through and exiting through Museumplein. Even if you're not wanting to visit a museum, the architecture is breathtaking.
I'd recommend Vondelpark to any type...
