This restaurant needs to improve its customer service. We walked in on Saturday afternoon looking forward to lunch. When we were seated we were asked if we wanted anything to drink. My friend politely asked for the menus first as we wanted to have a look. The same server then went to attend to another table then disappeared behind the bar. A few minutes later I went to the bar to ask for the menus again and there was no one there so when I saw all the menus on a side table in front of the bar, I went to get them myself. The owner/ manager approached me and told me the waitress is busy and she will bring them to us and she didn’t let me take the menus myself. Very odd, I thought. We waited patiently and after some time our server brought menus to our table. For reference, we were two adults with 3 kids under 5 so we wanted to look at the menus sooner than later..
The spaghetti bolognese we ordered for the kids was delicious, although it could have used more meat sauce given how much pasta there was.
I ordered the chicken and avocado open sandwich as it was recommended by our server. After having the first bite I found that it was spicy and I don’t recall the description including a note about it being spicy. I gulped down a whole glass of water and realized I wouldn’t be able to eat the rest. When the server came over I explained to her that unfortunately I am unable to eat the sandwich as it was too spicy and if can have something else instead. It was my first time here and I really wanted to have a positive lunch experience but the sandwich had quite a kick. I politely asked if I can have the sandwich taken off the bill ( 15.50Eur) and I’ll order something else like salmon eggs Benedict. She then walked away and a few mins later the same owner/ manager that told me earlier I couldn’t take the menus to the table myself said that me not eating the sandwich was due to my personal taste and she cannot take it off the bill. I said that it’s not a matter of liking or disliking it but really it was too spicy for me to consume. She said yeah it’s personal taste. I was shocked. The restaurant was empty and I thought wouldn’t they want to keep the customers they have in there satisfied and have them walk out with a positive experience? For the record this was the first time in my life that I’ve asked to send a dish back that I wasn’t able to eat.
I had them take away the sandwich and after paying our bill my friend asked for a takeaway box to pack up the rest of her sandwich. They took a while and when I went to the front to ask the manager/ owner for the box she said yes your server will get it. We waited for about 5 mins and then the manager/owner came back with a small brown pastry bag ( that fits a croissant ) in which my friend had to fold the sandwich in half to make it fit in there. She said they didn’t have boxes. This is a restaurant that serves pizza, fish, and pasta and it made me wonder how they would pack up a pasta bolognese or half a pizza for a customer in a small brown bag?!
The interior decor of this spacious restaurant was lovely and it’s too bad the customer service was so poor. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant and it is unlikely I will...
Read moreboth sets of Benedict eggs was hard boiled / almost no Hollandse and out of a espuma tank so it’s a foam and two big pieces of toasted bread with two little hard boiled eggs on each one. poached eggs take 3-4 minute with a splash of vinegar to set the white ( note to chef ) the veg quiche was for a frozen package warmed up and laid on a plate. The mini dutch pancakes also frozen and the kid pancake also frozen and reheated. Coffee was good / hot coco was fine. Waiters was super nice and very professional and didn’t ask how the breakfast was because she knew is was rubbish. Guys if you want serve brunch you’ll need to really serve. The brunch game is strong in amsterdam. This was pretty bad and the chef with the bald head knows it. He’s just to proud. But this an owner problem, they aren’t here just there names on there favourite things like we trust the owners, I did lol. And it’s pricey for what You get which...
Read moreThe food was quite ok, especially the sweet potato fries were good, and I appreciated the broad and reasonably priced drinks menu. The interior was comfortable, nicely decorated ad spacious (a rarity here). A great place to meet friends. The only downside was that they dont serve water in a caraffe, only by the glass, which they repeatedly forget to bring along with other drink orders. If you cant remember to bring drink orders then maybe water by the glass is not the smartest strategy. On the other hand, to all the people complaining that this place is expensive, welcome to Amsterdam. This is in no...
