Amazing food, the best owners and a satisfied tummy. Grannies is fantastic on multiple level and has now become my go-to for those more continental cravings (including the famous Dutch food)
Update: Eating at Grannies (post terraces opening) - (16/05/2021) Today I had the pleasure of trying the farmers omelette. I ordered it thinking it may be a medium sized omelette, but was I surprised and in such a good way. The colours, the aroma and the textures were all fabulous. Let me break it down. Brown bread layered with meat and the omelette that had a texture like a scramble was partially wrapped in the meat. It was complemented with some fresh salad on the plate with some beautiful pickled onions that added a tangy note. This was certainly a big meal. Love the flavours, the colours and the textures. This is certainly a very recommended dish you should try. Check out the pictures for more details.
Covid Regulations: (5/5) Excellent. The staff always have their masks in inside and there are separators between us. The payment is also by pin making it great. The speed of service is also super quick so you are not spending too much time inside as well.
Food: (5/5) I love the food here. (1) Stamppot with sauerkraut - this was my first ever experiences of Stamppot. I wasn’t too sure what to expect, but the packaging and the guidance on heating was fantastic. I must admit it tasted so good. The balance of the meat and mash was fabulous. It was also extremely filling. (2) Cake: ordered multiple piece including the chocolate one, the Citroen one and a new flavour (which I forgot 🙈) but they were all great. Perfect for the cool weather and balances well with a hot drink (3) Gluhwein - this is one of the best I have had. It’s not way too strong, but it’s all bursting with flavours. Making it the right balance during these colder days.
Service: (5/5) Super fast. The owners are also such fantastic folks. Always smiling and jolly and really brighten up your day when you walk in.
Summary: (5/5) This is a must visit for anyone who loves continental food or just want to try some authentic Dutch food. Will be...
Read moreLunchroom Grannies is quite a misnomer as there are no grannies here, but two men who could be grandpas. The restaurant exudes an old-timey feel with black and white photos of Holland in the 19th century, amidst vintage paraphernalia. It's all pretty charming.
Came here for brunch with my friend and we ordered an all day breakfast with omelette, bacon and toast, and a beef stew. Both were delicious and reasonably priced for the generous servings. The stew in particular came with thick cut crispy fries that were cooked till golden brown, and served with a small pot of mayo. Very Dutch. They're so good, we asked to take them away in a bag as we couldn't finish all the food. The man who served us (presumably one of the owners) was happy to oblige. One thing I wish they could do better to elevate the dining experience further is to brew stronger coffee. The cappuccinos we ordered were quite weak. Nevertheless we would gladly come back here again for dinner, except that they're closed...
Read moreOmg, this place is a brilliant find in Amsterdam. The lunch room is run by two men who are very warm and welcoming. The service is great, and that's a rarity in Amsterdam. Their vegetarian omelette is the best I've ever had. The ambience of the place is so cosy that you never want to leave. The portions are huge and the pricing is reasonable. The dishes there have an authentic Limburgish touch, also quite rare in Amsterdam. What more can you ask for?! I highly...
