We came here because of the high rating on Google. We live in the United States and eat Mexican and Tex Mex fare a lot.
The atmosphere is neat here, and they had 40s and 50s jazz music in the background. It reminds me of a Chipotle with a bit more flair.
The service was excellent. The gentleman who took care of us cares about his place and food. He took time to explain the menu. I feel that any low reviews might stem from not understanding the menu as to what Tomatillo offers. I will touch on that.
They do have alcoholic drinks (some reviews from years ago mentioned they did not - this has changed). I had white wine, and my wife had a margarita. She kept raving about how good it was and how she enjoyed its tartness.
Our food was excellent. I had a fajita burrito which means it comes with more vegetables than just beans, rice, salsa, and cheese. My wife ordered just the burrito with pico de gallo and raved about it. I added habanero sauce on the side with mine and had it in a bowl. It came with two corn tortillas to make my own tacos with it. It was super good.
Like any restaurant, one might have to figure out the offering and details that match one’s taste preferences. My case in point is this: their carryout to people who have figured it out is robust. Don’t miss this gem. It is really good. Dine in and let them explain the offerings. It’s a simple menu but they have options - gluten-free and...

Unfortunately, none of it was very flavorful. I ordered it with green salsa and even with that overall the burrito was very bland. And there was cheddar cheese on it which was the most dominate flavor and not in a good way. I love cheddar cheese, but it has no place on a burrito.
I'll try them again at one of their locations, and for an Amsterdam burrito, it is near the top. But if you are from somewhere, you can get authentic Tex-Mex or Cali-Mex you will be...
Read more'Twas a mild Friday eve and the wife and I had not a plan nor a whim to cook dinner. Upon browsing uber eats, little inspiration came until, like a flash from the holy lord, Tomatillo stood before us like el Salvador. We decided to visit the establishment in Oost and were pleasantly and delightfully surprised by the calibre of food and service, for this little central American nook in the middle of backstreets Amsterdam.
The pork burrito was sensational, and you have to try the margarita, I make them well at home but this is something different.
Kudos to the Tomatillo team, for the tantalising...
