Bagel & Bloom is a fantastic cafe conveniently located near the cruise ship port, surrounded by a variety of shops and boutiques. We stopped in for breakfast, and every single thing we ordered was absolutely superb.
Even though it was 90°F outside, their hot drinks were a standout. The White Hot Chocolate, Red Eye, and Chai Latte were rich, flavorful, and totally worth it. For breakfast, the French Toast is a must-try—perfectly cooked and delicious. We also loved their Hot Breakfast, where we had our eggs cooked over easy and paired with a whole wheat bagel.
But let’s talk about the real star of the show: the bagels. As a native New Yorker, I consider bagel-snobbery practically a birthright. In true Brooklyn fashion, I put the chef to the test by ordering a baconeggandcheese on an everything bagel (not on the menu). The chef rose to the challenge, and I can confidently say it didn’t disappoint.

Read moreMy husband purchased half a dozen bagels to eat throughout the week. When I first saw them, I immediately wanted to try one. It was too hard. I told my husband but he said, that is how they should be. When we arrived home and he tried to cut one with his bagel slicer (he loves bagels) , the blade did not go smoothly through the bagel. As a matter of fact, he stopped because the bagel was crumbling. The bagel did not have the texture other bagels have. The whole bagel was hard, including the center as if it was a piece of toast. Bagels have a firm but soft center. None of them did. He trashed them but I took them and broke them up and put them out for the birds.
Maybe we received a bad batch.
We now go to Vandentwel (spelling) for our Bagels. Bagel and Bloom is probably good for others but it did not...
Read moreWe were excited to check out a bagel shop as bagel-love'n New Yorkers. Sweet atmosphere, enthusiastic staff. We asked if the bagels were made in-house. Yes, yes, they told us. Not in the restaurant but nearby. We said, great! We'd like to get half dozen. "We bake them fresh then freeze them immediately," the hostess said. We were skeptical, but Ok, it's a hot island, maybe that keeps them fresh. Only when we got them to the car did we notice the bag, which says, in bold letters "Made in the Bronx." A Bronx factory by the taste, no hand-forging here. Upshot: 2 stars for terrible bagels. 1 star for telling us they were fresh and local. 5 stars for the hostesses...
