Takeaway ribs. I wouldn't disagree with the reviewer who thought the ribs tasted pork-ish, but so what? They were very, very good. I'm not one of those Americans that gets into BBQ so much I can identify the region/rub/etc. This had a basic sweet BBQ sauce that was delicious. I would have loved to by a little container on the side. The portion of both ribs and rice was huge--maybe9-10 ribs? and two cups of rice. The slaw was a small 1/2 cup, but have to tell you, the best I ever tasted. I'm guessing there was ginger and mustard in it, but I don't know for sure. Normally skip the slaw but this was amazing. Really, except for the slaw, enough for two portions--I ate it again the night after.
The rice was cooked well, not mushy, had a slight flavor to it, but honestly, for me, boring. If I was at home, I would have kept it and made fried rice or something. It comes in a disposable container (no styrofoam, folks!) so it doesn't take long before it gets soft. Not something you can eat and walk, and don't make any stops and plan to heat later--the container won't make it to the door. I got there slightly before 6 and food was...
Read moreI had the pleasure of visiting Bobbejan's, a BBQ snack bar with a delightful Caribbean flair, and I can't recommend it highly enough. The ribs there are the best I've ever had â even Frank Underwood would lick his fingers after trying them. The chicken with peanut sauce was also incredibly delicious. The meals come with fries and coleslaw, making for a perfect combination.
The rum punch was super tasty and definitely added to the merriment of the evening. The portion sizes are huge â we couldn't finish our two meals that night, which meant we got to enjoy them again the next day. The prices are very fair considering the generous portions.
The only downside is that the wait time can be a bit long, and there are very limited seating options. But, after all, itâs a snack bar, not a restaurant. We made the best of it by enjoying a rum punch while we waited. Plus, there are beautiful benches by the harbor where you can take your food and enjoy it with a view of the sea. It doesnât get more...
Read moreWe were looking for dinner on a Sunday night. Many places are closed, and since we came to the island on the first night of Advent, places that were normally open were closed for church attendance. We came across Bobbejan's in a small side alley BBQ joint that is only open Friday-Sunday. Let me tell you, the ribs fell off the bone. The cost of a meal is reasonable and the locals for sure have this as one of their favorites. The place was busy. You could watch the cooks making ribs and chicken on the grills. The wait may of been the hardest with all the good smells. Island time is a real thing, so don't expect to order and receive. Make it more of a social wait, take a walk around the area, talk to those around you. The wait was worth it. The food was fresh and hot. We took ours back to the hotel and enjoyed it. A great find on the water front, near Flying...
