We just completed a 3 day stay in Amsterdam prior to taking a cruise to Scotland, Ireland, Wales and UK. While in Amsterdam, we purchased tour to Windmill Country and ended by taking a ferry to Volendam fishing village.
Our first stop was at The Cheese Factory. Humorous, Charming and beautiful young woman presented a short, interesting program of their cheese processing. Then upstairs to sample the cheeses. Yes, we bought wonderful cheeses. Yum!
Without a doubt, Windmill countryside and Volendam was our very favorite place to visit in our 15 days of travel to all those countries!!!! My husband and I were thoroughly charmed .
We had a DELICIOUS seafood dinner at Restaurant De Lunch, great food, great service, friendly staff and charming!
Our waitress recommended we make a special visit next door at Woltje's Bakery. We ordered one of their homemade waffles covered with melted milk chocolate, cherries and whipped cream. Thought we died and went to heaven!!! Couldn't top this....right? WRONG.....The nice young man that made our waffle asked if we had ever had one of their famous "Stroopwafels". One bite and I fell in love with my newest favorite sweet food in the world !!!! Chocolate Carmel Stroopwafels ......purely wonderful!!!! Then big treat to go downstairs for bakery demonstration to make Stroopwafels. What fun. Bought a box to take with us and I wish I had the recipe provided by the bakery. Somehow I lost it in our travels. If anyone can post recipe on this website, I would appreciate.
This day will remain in my dreams forever. Thank you to The Cheese Factory, De Lunch, Woltje's Bakery and the most beautiful, charming village...

We then got to taste a freshly made one, followed by some stroopwafel liquor (which you should taste after you cleanse your palate from the stroopwafel). The basement was also a small museum, showing old attributes used and a bit more story of the stroopwafel history. When going back up you get to taste 3 different stroopwafels and receive a freshly made one to eat or take away. Staff was friendly and felt sincere. They really...
Read moreWoltje's has the best Stroopwaffels in Nederlands and by far the best I have tasted across my trip to Nederlands, their store in Volendam is pretty good and located on the beachside. I have been there both the times I have been to Nederlands and recently I've taken 2 full bags of Honey and Syrup Stroopwaffels back to India. Special mention to Kendra.. we went in when they were just about to close however she was extremely courteous and patient to have waited till we went about the store and looked around for more stuff to buy, she was very sweet and was kind enough to give us a few freebies. She was vey sweet and her kind gestures made our trip to Netherlands even...
