Kyoto — Restaurant in Eindhoven

I'm disappointed that this is considered "good Japanese food" in Eindhoven. The Japanese kitchen has so much more to offer than this. This feels like a cheap knock-off of real Japanese food. Yet, it's not cheap considering the quality of food served. The restaurant was busy, but not quite busy enough to explain why we needed to wait so long for our food.

The sushi itself is not that different from any fast-food sushi. There's too much sauce and mayonaise on the sushi, and the fish (I'd say an integral part of sushi) is very mediocre. The tuna was just disappointingly plain and had no taste at all. The salmon was somewhat better but nothing special. The rice (another fairly important part!) was very bad. It did not taste or feel like sushi rice at all. The nigiri were sloppy and roughly put together. In Japan, you'd be fired on the spot if you make something like that and serve it to a customer. The desserts are very uninspiring and not really Japanese. The service was very slow. While we didn't have to wait that long on a few entree's and tempura shrimp, we did have to wait over 60 minutes for sushi. When we asked a waiter what was going on, there was no apology but just a quick "it's coming". They also took the wrong order once.

The food is great (if manage to receive it), but the service is truly horrible, if you are in a group less than 4 people. Tried it twice, both times bad service and will never go there again. Not worth the spoiled evening and the spent money. During my last visit following things happened: The waiter tried to tell us, that they have only 1 menu card in the whole restaurant, while they were in a pile behind him and his colleague tried to tell him that too. We were 3 people: ordered 2 beers and a vine, but received drinks only for 2 persons. Waited 1.5 hrs for the starter, when we stopped the menu, because we got frustrated ( you could see other groups of people being served before us)- a waiter or manager (he didn't introduce himself) came and said, that we should have told them, that we are in a rush. Well, I don't think that 1,5 hrs for a starter is being considered normal. When I asked him to please not discuss this at the table (I would explain this to him, when I was paying the check), because my mother was visiting us and I was trying to make a nice evening, he did not listen and insisted and remained at the table. I had the worst restaurant experience of my entire life in here. We went there with my boyfriend for a super casual valentines dinner, it was a real mistake. Even though we made a reservation before going there, we had to wait a bit before we were seated. Then we had to wait even longer to order our dinner. At that point it was around 20:30 and I was already very hungry. The waitress who took our orders was not really communicating well, she simply forgot about my order and we found out this when I waited for my food to arrive for AN HOUR. It never came. My boyfriend had to ask for where my order is to the same waitress. Then she brought ONLY 1 of the things I ordered (at this point it is 21:30 and I am super angry and hungry). Then we had to ask where the second dish was?! The second dish came way after. It was fried rice and while I was eating it something cracked in between my teeth.
