A nice concept that still needs to land the execution. Today040 has potential. I’m excited about a diner concept in Eindhoven. I really felt the American diner ambiance when I walked in. Even the smell of the place brought back nostalgia. I was happy to see the bottles of ketchup and hot sauce on the table as we sat down. Not something you would see on your typical Dutch restaurant. The staff was just the right amount of friendly and attentive for the diner feel.
On to the food. We ordered the classic Reuben and the vegetarian English breakfast. I found it slightly odd for an American diner to be servicing a more classic English style breakfast. An affront to American diners. However, at the excitement for hash browns my wife swayed away from the original idea of getting pancakes.
The Reuben was tasty. I could overlook the fact it’s not served on rye bread since it’s not so common here in the NL. The fresh brown bread was an ok compromise. For €12 i could have expected a bit more corn beef or at least something more than the small amount of potato chips on the side. Everything else about the Reuben was done well.
The vegetarian breakfast we would not order again. We were really looking forward to hashbrowns but sadly disappointed by the dry, mushy pre made, probably frozen pucks that came out. The scrambled eggs were a small portion over cooked and chewy. It’s not something we’d quickly go back and try again. If I could give any advice on it, move towards a more classic American diner breakfast. For the veggie version: Two eggs, two pancakes, veggie sausage, fresh hash browns, side of toast.
The place is still new, so they have some time to find their place. I hope they opt for some more freshly made items. Again, today040 has a potential, I will go back to give some of the other items a chance. I really love that someone is bringing the diner concept to Eindhoven.
Thanks for the experience, and thank you for the...
Read moreNice place with great atmosphere but the quality of the food is low. But first things first, they have two different Prosecco on the menu, interesting, but when we ordered the not 'extra dry' one we were told they weren't sure they actually had it and if they didn't if we would mind receiving the other one. After serving the prosecco to the wrong table, we eventually got ours be only after our oysters were served. Plus we weren't told which Prosecco it ended up being. Sadly one of the oysters had not been opened and cut correctly, so after wrestling it out with a spoon and another with some loose shell in it they were very tasty. For mains 29 euro's gets you a smallish tenderloin steak which isn't cooked to order, medium to well done when medium rare was ordered but still somehow wasn't very warm plus that doesn't include any sides. That was disappointing. Selection of drinks though again was good, although the staff confused a Chardonnay with Pino Grigio somehow and the Primitivo was a real powerhouse that fit the spicier food very well. For desert we queried what exactly a chocolate cornflake was, which sounded excellent but in practise was so cold straight from the fridge that is had become (or stayed?) so hard it was unbreakable/inedible. Didn't bother about my brownie becoming a blondie when served, it was ok and our comments about needing power tools to be able to eat the chocolate cornflake were dismissed we a 'thanks for the tip' anyway. Coffee was fine and the Pornstar Martini cocktail was perfect. If I come back it will be for drinks and maybe some of these start-up issues...
Read moreWe came around 12:30 and ordered Phily Cheese Steak and 3 eggs benedict with drinks. From the start it was a complete disaster. First we waited long time to order, then our lemondade had a huge lipstick stain. Waiter was polite to exchange it for clean glass. After that everything started going worse and worse. My Phily Cheese Stake was BLUE, I checked the menu but it doesn't say how it's done, nor they asked how I would like it but ok, I also didn't ask how does it come. (I doubt it comes blue, not even rare. If I gave it CPR it would probably come alive). Eggs Benedict were more like hard boiled eggs also but taste was good. When they were taking plates waiter asked was everything ok since I didn't eat the blue steak and we told him on which he said that we will get a discount. Apart from that waiters were running around like headless chickens without picking up plates or asking anything. We asked to order a dessert and eventually had to stop the waiter to do so. We waited 45 min for them to bring carrot cake, red velvet and pancakes. We would probably wait even more if we didn't stop the waiter again to ask where are our desserts. After everything when we went to pay, there was no promised discount at all. We just wanted to leave so we didn't want to argue because in any case we will never ever come here again although we like the idea of the place but unfortunately this is just a waste of time, nerves and money. P.S pancakes for 10 euros, 3 small...
