Yamas — Restaurant in Enschede

I have a sincere liking to a place where you can notice the owner actually cares, is involved. Olympic has this great lady as a host, she looks tired but with a sparkle in the eye, she cares. You can tell right away she is in charge even when she is quite humble doesn't boss around, au contraire, staff is dining along guests in the restaurant. LOVE IT! all people all hungry all treated with respect. Visit with my mom and brother, they had a small mix grill I had a bigger one. Pfew it was quite big. But it was delicious, all juicy, well cooked even with the variety of meat, one downside was the airco we sat under it and it chilled our dishes quite fast, just so you know. Went today to Yamas. It used to be called Olimpic and it seems like they kept the same staff and maybe the menu? I really loved going to Olimpic the vibe was very tavern like how it is in eastern Europe but now they have made it like a cheap atraction of sorts. Like the interior is like every other greek place trying to look fancy yet it is not. Super uncomfortable cutlery, heavy stone plates? They ruined the authentic experience for a cheap nockoff. But that was not the worst part. I really love eating from Olimpic I was going to be fine eating there if it was just a visual change. The food has gotten basic and tastles. The chiken with the cream sause tasted like rubber and the beef was just bland. I remember enjoying my food there but now I was just rushing to leave. Een teleurstellende ervaring in een mooi opgeknapt restaurant. Het eten was lekker, al waren de porties schandalig klein voor de prijzen van de grotendeels simpele gerechten (spiezen, gyros, gehakt en (gefrituurde) zeevruchten). Dit is een teleurstelling vergeleken met de vorige iteratie van het restaurant, Olympic. Drankjes kosten ook schandalig veel (€3.40 voor water, €3.80 voor frisdrank). Op één van de oude Olympic werknemers na kwakte personeel het eten maar op tafel, en vaak ook niet tegelijkertijd. Personeel en service was in het algemeen onvriendelijk. Er werd ook gewezen naar tafels en mensen door de manager, die dan openlijk aan ander personeel vroeg of "die tafels wel eens klaar zouden zijn en weg gaan". Deze, wat wij vermoeden, manager was drukker met vrienden buiten te zitten, en als hij er wel was, zweefde veel bij tafels rond om duidelijk de boel af te luisteren. Het restaurant is ook erg krap ingedeeld, met veel te veel tafels - welke tevens ook oncomfortabel laag waren - voor de beschikbare ruimte, wat ook het rondlopen voor het personeel duidelijk moeilijk maakte. De algemene indruk is dat ze zich meer druk maken om "upmarket" te zijn, met modern, "stijlvol" (lees: ik kan me niet voorstellen dat dit makkelijk af te wassen is) servies en decoratie. Dit gevoel kwam ook door een groep influencers die later dan onze tafel en anderen binnen kwamen, en direct als eerste werden geholpen en hun eten geserveerd kregen, met ook meer aandacht van het personeel.
