€12 for a pint of beer?

I was shocked when the bartender charged me for a half-foamed beer. I asked why it was so expensive, and he responded that it was because of the high alcohol percentage. The bartender next to him laughed at this ‘joke.’ I asked the person next to me at the bar if this was normal for Hilversum, and he said no way. He asked the bartender in Dutch, and the answer changed to: “It’s because you ordered a half-litre beer.”

If pints aren’t a standard size in the Netherlands and I’d be charged double for ordering one, I should have been informed beforehand.

When I was drinking my pint, another waitress came by to collect the empty glasses. I double-checked with her if €12 for my beer was normal. She seemed surprised and said it must be a mistake. She went to check with the bartender and came back, saying it was because I ordered a pint. I told her I should have been informed, and she said she would double-check again—but she never came back.

The hosting was horrible, and the way the beer was served—with half of it foam—was unacceptable. Definitely the worst...

Definitie one of the best cafés/bars in Hilversum. The beer is good, they serve Grolsch. They offer a variety of snacks as well such as Bitterballen (a Dutch snack).

The terrace is amazing as well, especially during summer. It is big enough, has heaters and it faces the sun.

The people that come there are normally good people as well. People that disturb the peace will be requested to leave, which I've only seen a few times in the past two years by the way.

AVOID! Travelled from Australia to Netherlands to see where my mate was born. Decided to sit down for a drink. Sat down with a wine. Coming out of the bathroom the girl working there became aggressive towards me claiming my mate was drunk (my mate doesn't drink alcohol and was only after a coke a cola). I was only polite and shocked as I had done nothing wrong. This was on Monday lunch time....please spend you money elsewhere. I don't need to be abused when I had done...
