Taverna De Griek — Restaurant in Hilversum

My husband and I had dinner here. We were greeted very warmly and shown to our table. The service was wonderful. The menu has a wide variety of options for all dietary preferences. It being our first time at the restaurant, we could not find haloumi on the menu, and asked about it. They did not have it on the menu but did have some in the kitchen and served it to us. Which we thought was exceptionally kind and great service. We both ordered meat dishes. The portions of meat were very large and served on the plate by it self. It was brought with a side of fries and a small fresh salad, each served separately. We loved the way it was dished and served as other restaurants generally fill the plate with fries to make the meal look large and then have sparse pieces of the food you actually ordered. Went there with a group of 5, very friendly reception by the staff and got seated and asked for drinks right away. When everyone had arrived we decided to go for the "all you can eat" option so we could taste pretty much everything that was on the menu.

The place was full, but the staff was attentive enough to notice when we were ready for our next round of ordering.

Taste was good for all the dishes, only 'issue' was the size of the bowl of salad which seemed somewhat small for a group of 5 and didn't last long. Same for the tzatziki, didn't last 2 rounds and did not get refilled (nor did we ask for a refill).

Normaal gesproken gaan we naar één van de andere twee Griekse restaurants in Tilburg, maar toevallig zagen we dat met de naamswijziging (en wisseling van eigenaar?) ook een tapasmenu was toegevoegd: dat moesten we dus even proberen!

Bij aankomst bleek dat het kerstmenu nog gold, maar ze wilden voor ons ook wel het tapasmenu beschikbaar stellen. Positief!

De tapasgerechten zijn van een behoorlijk formaat, dus met drie gerechten per persoon per keer hadden we aan drie rondjes genoeg. Het vlees is opvallend mals en zacht gebakken, en dat is een heerlijke manier van bereiden, die we bij andere Grieken nog wel eens missen. De gerechten springen er qua opmaak en variëteit zeker niet uit, maar blijft wel trouw aan de traditionele Griekse keuken.

Het interieur kan wel een update gebruiken. Het is een grote ruimte, en dat maakt het al snel wat gehorig. Een tussenwandje om het restaurant in tweeën te delen met wat leuke kunstplantjes ertegenaan zou al voldoende zijn.

De bediening tenslotte was uitstekend: twee jonge knullen, waarvan er eentje geen Nederlands spreekt (maar wel verstaat) was het toonbeeld van hoffelijkheid en gastheerschap. Door het Engels kregen we echt even het gevoel in een taverne in Griekenland te zitten, en het eten complimenteerde dat zeker.
