Restaurant Twelve — Restaurant in Leiden

The place looked rather fancy, the staff was very nice and welcoming. I reserved a table online mentioning my gluten allergy, and as they welcomed us they said they made sure they can attend to it. I ordered tomato soup with gluten free bread as a starter. At some point the waitress came to us and said they ran out of gluten free bread earlier that afternoon (we were there at 7pm) and asked me what I see as an alternative for gluten free bread, as she did not know what to give me. Instead of an actual hearty thick luscious puree-y tomato sound I ended up having a small - around 200 ml maybe - bowl of pure tomato-y water with huge drops of olive oil on the surface (without anything sub or extra in place of the missing gluten free bread, no small salad or another starter, nothing). The main course was a roasted ball pepper stuffed with chunks of roasted aubergine (I am a vegetarian), which was also extremely dissatisfying - no grains, no cheese/sauce/anything creamy and caloric to fill me up, just junks of vegetables. With the two of us, we shared a cheese platter for dessert, and it was just as disappointing, we received slices of something that tasted like Oude Amsterdam, Brie that you can get at Albert Heijn for a euro and some blue cheese, no date bread/crackers to go with it. My date also ordered a glass of cognac which, according to him, was very sharp and tasted really cheap. For all this “goodness” and just one glass of wine, one glass of cognac and a bottle of still water we paid almost 80 euro. We left very disappointed and hungry, never...

The young man that greeted us was dressed badly in dirty trousers. I was asked if I wanted a drink before I had my coat off. Service was prompt enough but food was not good. You would think with such a limited menu that they would serve tasty food, this was not the case. The standard of the food is less than I would serve up midweek after a days work. My fish was nothing like the description on the menu. The serving staff are untrained and don’t know how to do their job properly. The restaurant decor is great and the location but it needs a new chef and trained staff. Go to a good snack bar instead of this restaurant....

Dit was één van de slechtere Fletcher restaurant ervaringen die ik heb gehad.

We hadden een 3-gangen diner. Het voorgerecht was goed. We hadden een carpaccio en een soepje. Van tafels naast ons hoorden wij dat de soep niet warm was. Bij ons was dit niet het geval. We hoefden niet lang te wachten op het voor- en hoofdgerecht.

Het hoofdgerecht was wel prima. We hadden varkenshaas en kip-saté. De varkenshaas was best droog en ontzettend lauw en de kip-safe was goed. We hadden bij het hoofdgerecht nog een frietje besteld. Dit duurde zo verschrikkelijk lang dat we al klaar waren met het hoofdgerecht voordat het was aangekomen. Niet heel erg want we wilden dat frietje nog steeds wel. Echter zagen we het frietje aankomen en een meter voor onze tafel keerde de serveerder om en zei tegen de keuken of het wel goed was gegaan want we waren al klaar. Hij zette het frietje neer. Wij probeerden nog contact te krijgen met het personeel maar deze keek niet goed om zich heen. Na 20 minuten proberen aandacht te vragen, kwam er een serveerder naar ons toe om onze tafel uit te halen. Ik probeerde te vertellen wat er mis was gegaan met het frietje maar ik werd midden in mijn verhaal afgekapt. Nadat de serveerder weg was gegaan, sprak een andere tafel ons aan en vertelde ons dat het bij hen ook best wel mis ging. Een andere tafel sloot ook aan bij dit gesprek met dezelfde klachten. De service vanavond was echt niet goed en het restaurant was echt niet druk.

Het desert was ook wel prima, niets bijzonders maar dat is niet erg. Het was lekker.

Conclusie: Het eten gewoon prima maar de service...
