Funky Moose Restaurant — Restaurant in Lisse

So...simply, this was an exceptional night out. First of all, I screwed up my reservation during the busiest day of the year - literally - in Lisse. We were in town for the Tulip Parade and I booked for the 19th by accident. "Duco" (apologies for any misspelling), the owner was at the door, pointed out our mistake and seated us at the bar with zero issue... The service was 100% spot on and relaxed, the food hot, the drinks cold and everything was exceptionally tasty. the conversation about the town and the festival with Duco's husband (who was tending bar) was fun and informative.

We had the Sticky Tempeh Bao Buns, Chioggia beet "Carpacio," the Satay Chicken, an Avocado Burger and some apple pie... Everything we well prepared, well plated, and created with an eye towards well stated, complimentary flavors. 5 stars on all dishes except the apple pie which gets 3.75 stars. (This is mainly because I am an "American" style apple pie fan and the Dutch versions tend to be more tart like with more pastry and a lesser level of fruit than I prefer... It was flavorful, and like everything else well executed I just wanted about 2-3x more apples, in the pie...

Regardless, the folks at Funky Moose have the place in order, it is run well, the food is excellent and I 100% recommend the Funky Moose if you are...

A mixed experience with potential.

We had a lovely family dinner at Funky Moose in Lisse. The restaurant is tastefully and modernly decorated, creating a stylish and welcoming atmosphere we truly enjoyed.

The food was decent, though slightly overpriced. The beef burger was unfortunately undercooked, and the cocktail glass had a strange odor. Most disappointing was finding a few small hairs in the dessert.

As someone who works in the hospitality industry, I understand that not everything always goes perfectly—but details matter, and hygiene is essential.

Service was friendly and well-intentioned, though not very proactive. When we brought up the issue with the dessert, the staff didn’t have an immediate solution. However, to their credit, they eventually removed the dessert from the bill, which we appreciated. Despite the flaws, we left a small tip in recognition of their effort and attitude.

We enjoyed this place so much that we came back again the next night before we left to head back to Spain. Food was pretty good, but the service made it top notch! The first night we got the chef special which ended up being steak and shrimp with veggies, the burger and fries, and the kids shared the kids snack meal with chicken fingers, fries, and croquettes. The chef special was definitely the star of the show. The burger was ok, but I wouldn’t get it again. The next night we got the chicken sandwich and sweet potato fries, the tulip spritz, and expresso martini. All of it was superb! I was pleasantly surprised with how wonderful the tulip spritz was, I wish I knew how to make it at home! We got a desert for us, which was tasty, and they brought out a special desert for our two small kids too! All around an amazing experience of food, atmosphere, and service.
