Yan — Restaurant in Noordwijk

We are tourists and came here for a quick dinner before going to the cinema based on the good reviews here. We were placed at a free table and then nothing happened anymore. After ten minutes, we stopped a waiter to ask for the menu. She then asked what we wanted to drink, without giving us the menu. When we then asked what they had on the drink menu, she rolled her eyes and literally said "We just have the usual stuff". We never received a drink menu and thus ordered water. Later, we managed to stop a different waiter, who was actually not responsible for us, but much friendlier and at least took our order. To be fair, we were not looking our best and rather touristy, spoke only English, we also brought our kids (8+10), so we may not have fitted perfectly in the otherwise smartly dressed crowd. It would have been perfectly acceptable to turn us away. But they accepted us and took our money and we were nothing but polite and friendly and do not think it's ok to be treated so poorly. Can't tell if she didn't like our look and/or us being foreigners or if our waiter just had a bad day, but we never felt so uncomfortable before in a restaurant. Food is pretty good in terms of authenticity (we're South East Asians so we know the true flavours!) and so nice to see generous portions! We left pleasantly full! We really enjoyed it very much and as our last meal before our holiday ended it couldn't be more perfect. I would have given 5 starts if one of the dishes had a little bit less salt in it (best to be less salt and customers can add to if needed than being too salty). Also it would have been nice to see more of Thai desserts, like mango and sticky rice with coconut cream, etc. The service was great, very friendly and accommodating waiting staff, not Thais but kitchen staff (heard speaking Thai). We didn't have to wait a long time for the food to come out. The atmosphere not bad at all. A little bit dark inside but I guess this gives it a romantic atmosphere (not that we were looking for that we had a 2 year old with us!) tastefully decorated. Unfortunately todas I was very disappointed with the service, especially compared to how attentive other waiters usually are. The food was amazing, and the atmosphere was lovely—both easily deserve five stars. However, the main server was unprofessional, which put a damper on the experience. The lady who served us was unprofessional compared to the other waiters, who were smiling and cheerful. Our server today seemed as though she was forced to do her job.
