Unlike many nearby restaurants, this one is not allergen friendly.
1). I ordered a salad after informing the server of a wheat allergy. The salad arrived with white bread pieces as croutons. I sent the salad back.
2). The salad returned unchanged. I was told the chef confidently believed that white bread did not contain wheat. This is not a joke.
3). When the chef remade the salad, they reused the same shrimps that had been in contact with the bread. At this point it isn't clear the chef knows what an allergy is.
4). I was told the shrimp were reused only after I'd eaten one of them, despite having been told this would be a "new" salad. At this point, the meal would be on the house at any self-respecting establishment.
5). There was never any offer to reduce the price of the final salad or somehow compensate for the chef's incompetence. Instead, they insisted on payment of the full price.

Food: The Yacht Club doesn't claim to be a gourmet restaurant and offers competent comfort food at decent prices. (Try the appetizer Grouper Fingers - delicious and big enough portion to fill you up for the day). The bar is run with great efficiency, drinks are reasonably priced and service is very friendly and competent.
Crowd: Many of the regulars are also members of the Yacht Club, expatriates who arrived in St. Maarten on their own boats and stayed. Especially on Friday evenings, the bar is filled with...
