BitterKoud — Restaurant in The Hague

I’ve been here before and enjoyed the ice cream and sandwiches. Today I went with my daughter for a treat at 10h30 and there was a ‘closed’ sign on window. I asked the young woman if they were opening and she shook her head. So I get back in my car and as I’m leaving, she opens the door for business - now the shop is open (2 minutes later??). Very poor service unfortunately, clearly don’t need customers, and breaks are more important. Pity as we won’t come back again.

UPDATE: thanks for the response from Bitterkoud. It certainly wasnt a school holiday, and your opening hours on Google Maps say 8:30am. I didnt see the 'large sign' on your front door as you suggest, which is strange as i did see the 'Gesloten' sign hanging on this door. Maybe you should update the Google Maps details and possibly respond better to customers at the door to avoid any more...

A coffee and icecream bar with a lively atmosphere greated by newly moms and children from a nearby school.

The staff are young but are very adults, even sharing gossip between coworkers that is heard in the cafe.

I had the chai latte which was not too sweet and well balance in flavour, my drinking partner had a latte that was watery but passed the spoon test for the foam.

They also had an Affogato which is a rare treat in The Hague. An Affogato is cold espresso cup with vanilla gelato in it. A great combination that takes the bite away from the bitter espresso and balances out with the sweet icecream to a pleasant drink.

In total it was 9 euro's. The hot drinks are between 2 and 3 euro's. An interesting shop that seems to be quite popular with the surrounding locals. Definitely go there for...

Een ster dus en dat voor het ijs dan. IJs is welbekend en gemaakt door Luciano en prima ijs, ook bij mij hier in Overveen een tractatie, maar gastvrijheid is een ander ding. Eindelijk na 3 weken misgegrepen te hebben voor een ijsje ( 1e keer 2 minuten over 18 u, herfstvakantie). gelukkig, dit keer open maar met vreemde lichtjes, Halloween. Leuk voor de kinderen. Het personeel achter de balie maakte correct duidelijk dat ze eigenlijk gesloten waren, maar na mijn eerdere teleurstellingen probeerde ik nog een ijsje te "kopen". Dit bleek echter niet in goede aarde te vallen bij de eigenaar(?) die toevallig net binnen kwam De manier waarop dit vervolgens mij te verstaan werd gegeven sluit wel aan bij de ongastvrije sfeer uit eerdere reviews en voor mij dan ook echt geen Bitterkoud meer. De naam blijkt prima te passen bij de ambiance van de eigenaar en we laten het hier maar bij, wacht gewoon de opening van La Venezia op de Laan van Meerdervoort af in het voorjaar waar ik al 20 jaar gastvrij wordt onthaald, in voor -en tegenspoed, en waar men laat zien hoe...
