Bij De Jongens Valkenburg — Restaurant in Valkenburg aan de Geul

This restaurant was a great surprise in food quality. The venue is casual, the waitresses and waiter were very nice, attentive and gave perfect service.

The quality of the food is outstanding, reminds me of that of more expensive restaurants. The burger was just great, the risotto with duck was light, full of flavor, perfectly presented and overall fantastic. Every option we chose was really well done, better presented and delicious. It was especially good that the usual buttery, lingering feeling that is a bit too heavy for some tastes was never present. Every option, even the burger and the risotto! felt light and full of natural taste. Really good.

The only con, and it's not trivial, is the unreasonably high price of the drinks. Yes, we all assume that, as of late, restaurants get a big part of the business running on drinks, but 7 euro for a 750cc water, and 7 euro for each beer of the supermarket kind... That felt heavy.

Food itself was not very steep but not cheap either. Yes, it was great, but paying 114 euro in total for 2 adults and 1 kid... That's a bit of a stretch for me, for a casual setup like this. I was not expecting it at all.

That said, I would really recommend the place, you cannot get it wrong. Just watch out the final price and don't drink too much or you will easily approach 40 euro per person, or even more. In my case, one of us being a small kid, 114 euro is more like 45 per person, something that the place wouldn't suggest, at least to me. But again, it's a nice restaurant and the food...

Nice surprise. In the brasserie world, this restaurant maybe is one of the best I've visited in Valkenburg. Easy to park since the parking lot is in front of the restaurant. The venue has a Terrance and dining in area, which is nicely decorated. Simple and nice. The service flawless. Friendly and effective staff. They speak Dutch and perfect English. They took care of our comfort and were checking that all was well served. Accommodating and helpful. Top. The food was a surprise for the good. The burguer did not taste like butter but as real meat, instead. The krokant chicken, from the salad, was perfectly cooked. The same for all the dishes. Well presented, great taste and all fresh. The only thing is the price of the drinks. A bit on the steep side, but I do not thing it is too bad to deserve a bad comment. To me, almost 7 euros for a 75cl bottle of water is so so. But not too bad to complain. All in all, I fully recommend it. It was delicious nice and great...

We had dinner three of us and ordered chicken sate, steak and fish. Unfortunately food wasn't up to our expectations. Fish was chewy, steak was dry and sate could have been much better. Fries came with our main course was soaked in fat and broken. We told waiter about the fries and he told us that even if he brings a new one it will be the same. Instead of taking our fries back to the kitchen, he picked up one from the plate without asking permission and tasted himself. Then he disappeared and after some time another waitress brought us another bowl of fries. And taste was indeed the same. We left...
