Brasserie Sur Place — Restaurant in Venlo

The over-delivering bang-for-buck experience!

Went here after reading positive reviews and it was far more than positive experience!

To start with: the personnel is very welcoming, polite and caring. It is the minor things that make the difference and make the impressions last. At the entrance the server asked if we want to give him our coats. Then the whole evening he would refill our glasses of water and most impressive was the detailed explanation of the menu and every course served!

Now on to the food. The menu looks simple, about 5 dishes as a starter, 2 soups, and about 5 mains + various deserts and wines on separate cards. The most impressive however are the special 3 or 4 course menus combination specials offered. The price of the 3 course meal was about 33 euro and 38 for the 4 course. I did not go for it because how can 3 courses cost 33, while 1 main from the menu is not below 20? My Mistake. Huge mistake.

My girlfriend did go for the 3 course special and OH MY GOD. Every single dish was Michelin-star level bouquet of taste and presentation!

Not that my individual dishes were bad: the lobster soup was utterly surprising! Most soups you get served at restaurants either require a spoon of salt in them or are made to make your face melt from the boiling temperature they are served. This one was perfect in every sense! And so was every other dish!

I am sorry for the quality of the pictures, the lighting was great for an intimate setting, but not the best for phone pictures!

We visited this place by chance and had no idea we would be in for such a treat! The food was amazing and I felt that the food was very beautifully cooked by a clearly talented chef. The service was a very high standard with the waitress explaining in detail what everything was and being over all very attentive. Lovely food, well presented, interesting combinations of flavors, sometimes with a touch of grandmothers recipes. Good wine and friendly service. All that for a good price! Definitively...
