Old Dutch — Restaurant in Venlo

Went to dinner here with my dad (first time in Venlo!) and was pleasantly surprised at how great the food was.

We had the Caprese as a starter and the Parmigiano pasta for the main course. The Caprese had fresh mozzarella that tasted delicious, and it was also accompanied by some fresh bread with what I believe was an aioli dip. Overall, so fresh and tasty; the flavors were very balanced. As for the pasta, it was perfectly al dente and just the right amount of savory, thanks to the parmesan.

Our waiter, Ricky, was incredibly friendly, and definitely deserves a raise. He also (kindly) insisted that we order dessert, but we were too full from the scrumptious meal. We will be back another time for the chocolate soufflé. Thank you for making us feel at home!

Only thing I would slightly change about this restaurant is the decor in the outside seating area. However, this is definitely a tiny tweak that would make Old Dutch go from a 5/5 to a...

Ich hatte selten so ein enttäuschendes Essen wie in diesem Lokal. Der Burger war eine Zumutung: Das Fleisch ungenießbar, die Konsistenz gummiartig und der Geschmack nicht einmal annähernd akzeptabel. Das Burgerbrötchen war derart trocken, dass ich Mühe hatte, es überhaupt zu schneiden – geschweige denn zu kauen. Es erinnerte eher an altes Knäckebrot als an ein frisches Bun.

Meine Frau bekam eine Pizza, in Wahrheit handelte es sich klar um eine billige Tiefkühlpizza. Geschmacklich unterirdisch, der Belag fad, der Boden weich und völlig durchgeweicht. Von einem echten italienischen Koch, mit dem man sich offenbar gerne schmückt, war rein gar nichts zu merken. Als wir höflich darauf hinwiesen, wurden wir mit einer Mischung aus Ignoranz und Ausflüchten abgespeist. Null Einsicht, null Interesse.

Der einzige Lichtblick war die freundliche Bedienung, die sich zumindest für das Essen entschuldigte – das rettet aber leider nichts.

Einziger positiver Punkt: Die Spezi war kalt und schmeckte wie sie sollte. Gratulation – ein Softdrink war das kulinarische Highlight des Tages.

Fazit: Ich kann jedem nur dringend davon abraten, hier zu essen. Wer Wert auf gutes Essen legt, sollte weiträumig einen Bogen um dieses Restaurant machen. Schade um...

Today at 17.15 o’clock we came with hope to eat… but not. Nobody come, than when we catch the waitress she said thar we can not order food and need to leave a table in one hour. Awful behavior for visitors. When we can eat, can sit, why at least not stand on table “reserved” and notification “drink only”. Definitely not...
