1 star rating is purely for the fact their front entrance to their cafe was enough to make us try them. ..everything after that point was downhill. Spent $80 Waiting a good 5mins to be served or even to be greeted, even though their were two staff right there. A simple " Hi there won't be a minute" would have made all the difference. After placing our order ( which was a process in itself for straight forward off the menu items) we sat down and awaited. Firm believer of giving credit where credit is due, and must say the 2x kitchen meals came out in a timely manner well presented and were of good quality. The Cabinet item was a good 15min after the kitchen meals had come out so others at our table had fully finished their kitchen meal prior to the cabinet item even arriving, to the point we almost asked for it takeaway. We could see it sitting there behind the counter for a good while. We finally recieved this cut into it and was horribly dissapointed. A Satay Filo. The smell of tangy was so off-putting. Thinking it may have just been the Satay sauce proceeded to try, and was the most tangy horrible thing I've ever eaten. ...the 1and only bite I tried. Everyone at the table could smell it. When we left clearly not eating this and it was off, we told the counter staff / owner the kitchen meals were nice but the filos are only good for the bin, and not fresh. Noone could tell me when they were made and the only reply I received was a big smile and a nod saying yes yes .....ummmmmmm????? Not sure if they have taken these filos out. As I didn't request a refund. Nor were offered a replacement or refund. Came away almost wishing I had purchased the whole tray so I could bin them myself, prior to anyone getting sick.
I don't do reviews but this was the worst Ive ever dealt with or been served, and worry those filos will actually make someone sick!!! Athough I'm sure when they too open them they will get the wicked off smell as we did and hopefully do not eat them!!! God knows what else is not up to food safety standards. Coffee was 1 star too. Shame really as Roma beans are good quality. definitely didn't do the Coffee bean and justice or the Roma brand at all.
No refund, no explanation of when these were made and no sorry or apologies. Think I'm fair in even giving a...
Read moreI don't think the waitress was being intentionally racist, more like observational. I'm all too familiar with this situation and I've referred to people as Asian lady or white lady. Growing up, I have heard maoris refer to pakeha as "white boy" and "white lady"and they didnt mean it in a racist context. One of the first things that come to my mind when I can't remember people's names is their race and appearance. You know it and you've all been there. This owner doesn't seem to be integrated into western etiquitte or culture and that should put some perspective on this story. I have experienced racism first hand and if we were to start crying wolf over these small issues, then real racism will not be taken seriously. Btw, I saw this story on the daily mail and for once I agree with its usually conservative readers- this...
Read moreUndoubtedly, the best coffee shop in St Heliers with a swag Korean flair that a distinguishing gentleman making the coffee and his elegant wife provide. I go there to observe the beauty of their movements, the honest smile and sincere welcoming that every coffee experience should promote; as a local, it is my refugee spot from the false pretentiousness that St Heliers and Kohimarama may be perceived for ─And the best of all: No real estate agents with mismatching Hallenstein 100 dollars suits and brown shoes and no socks using the coffee shop as surrogate office space to discuss money and properties that they don't personally have; instead, you find peaceful and gentle elderlies, well-dressed local families and good willing customers appreciating good coffee. ─There!...
