I'd never been to Glover Park before and thought it was an amazing place for a picnic. I came here with 25 work colleagues for a Christmas picnic lunch, and Glover Park was a beautiful place with a glorious view over the water to Rangitoto. I found this mystery path down to the beach - it's on the fence-line close to the Glover Park entrance. If you climb through the fence there's a rough track, which will take you down a trail (you'll need to be sturdy on your feet). Read moreOne of my favourite green spaces in Auckland. I particularly like the steep pathway that wends its way up the hill on the western edge of the park - great to cycle up. The reward as you emerge from the trees at the top is well worth the effort. The view from the clifftop over the water is magnificent, with Rangitoto to the north, then Brown's Island and Waiheke in the distance; and eastwards to Musick Point and the Tamaki Inlet. Catch that same view on a full moon night; or wander up there in the darkness of a new moon - but don't fall over the edge!...
Read moreThe Glover Park is absolutely stunning. The trees are magnificent, their fingers grazing the clouds at points. The walking tracks are also exquisite, none of them too challenging. It's perfect for families, especially young ones. I had a picnic here a while ago and it was divine. Be careful of wind if you are to have a picnic, however. Some winds can really rip right through here and toss your entire lunch in the air, blanket and all! Overall, this park is my default family entertainment idea.
